| Bas Rutten vs. Anderson Silva @205lbs
The old school vs new school in terms of great strikers and most feared and respected fighters in the world. Who wins?
Rutten mabye about 4-5 years ago (due to age), IMO, would out class Silva. But I would go Rutten on this either way.....

Rutten has never fought the calibur MMA has today and judging from Rutten's past fights never had the standup Silva does either. Lesser fighters has given Bas all he could handle. Don't get me wrong, Bas was good but Silva is great.

What are you talking about Bas was top of the food chain Ken beat him wow Ken was the Shit back then Frank didn't beat him even in that win Frank lost. Have you ever seen Bas's fights. The guy was great. Now can he beat Silva...Only if it doesn't go to the ground if it does Bas is dead. So I give it to silva but I think Bas wins one Third of the times.

Silva. Bastio's strong points were always his Muay Thai (always wokring the body and leg kicks), his "straights" and his leg locks. After he dropped a few fights to subs, he focused alot on them and now his ground game is pretty good.

Poll? Where's the fucking poll?
Silva wins the fight, but Bas is still cooler, and will have a better after party.

Bas has never fought a striker as good as he is or better. Can you name any?
Ken and Frank were sub par at the time when considering the skill set of fighters today.

Yea, you know...I fuckin' love Bas. So much respect for the guy. And I can't even put Silva or Bas above one another when it comes to class and how they've represented the sport. Bas taking Kimbo in, Anderson showing as much respect to his opponents as he has - These guys are just great, all around.
But I really think a LOT of guys once thought of as unbeatable/the top of the food chain have fallen off the wagon, so to speak - BECAUSE of the sport's progress. Matt Hughes being the PERFECT example - The sport completely caught up to him. The guy barely got past Chris Lytle, hah. Just got beat by Thiago Alves, and St. Pierre proved to be the future.
Frank Shamrock I never thought of as all that great, hah, but whatever. Another topic, another thread - Whatever. Just saw him get beat by a guy who's only had a couple of professional MMA fights. That's not to say Cung's a scrub or someshit - It's just my point: the sport has evolved, and no matter how dominant the guys in the past were - the level of competition and hunger has never, ever been higher.
Pains me to say it, 'cause we all love Bas so much, but I'd have to take Anderson. I guess the only case one could make for Bas would be that this is a 205lbs match...And Mr. Rutten is no steroid using James Irvin, that's for damn sure. Shit, I'm thinking of changing my mind as I write this, hah...But nah, Anderson's untouchable right now. An real treasure to the sport.

Bas has changed his game alot since he has retired, with his ground game going from none to great.....
Anderson is unstopable right now, but i still feel that it would be a match up for the ages.
Anderson takes it two times out of three, but bas is still a high caliber fighter dispite what you might say.

in my mind bas takes it , but not now as he has tendonitis and
bad knees which wont heal , but in his heyday with his ground game
of today , he should take it but its a close call but anything can happen
in mma
