BJ Penn all day
Royce's prime was basically spent utilizing only his BJJ, albeit against bigger guys. Penn has done the same, as well as being well rounded, and stomping on other well-rounded fighters until he gasses
BJ Penn is incredibly talented, much more so then Royce. he may not be as good at BJJ as Royce, but physically can go farther and learn at a prodigious rate, as well as having the ability to learn how to fight standing and how to wrestle, to control where the fight takes place

BJ Takes this fight everytime.He's more well rounded,is faster,has better stand up and is more flexible.

I'd have to say Penn as well. Gracie didn't have much in the way of stand up.....even saying that is an overstatement.

just like how strikers always have a punchers chance, Royce always has that chance of submitting you at any time still... BJ Penn is one of the P4P best fighters in the world, Top 3 i'd say! and no one at 170 can beat this guy barring injury, except GSP.

Royce would win. Royce wouldn't stand with BJ and the fight would go to the ground early. Royce is a BJJ master when his A game is on and not even Hidehiko Yoshida could beat him, and Yohshida is an olypic silver medelist I think. IMO Hughes got very lucky cause Royce underestimated him.
