Don't see why this fight shouldn't happen. I hope it does.
Maia's fucking ridiculous on the ground, and Nate's striking is on another level. I'm going to say Marquardt. I think it'd be easier for him to keep the fight on their feet than it would be easier for Maia to hold Nate on the ground.
3 rounds, Nate Marquardt by decision.

This is a fight that should happen. I'd go with Maia. He's hungry and has enough talent to overcome a good striker like Marquardt. One thing that I like about this matchup is that Nate is the kind of fighter who will test him. I think it could be a great fight and one they can't schedule soon enough.

Nate the Great.
I see no reason why this fight shouldnt happen either. Let the winner fight for the title next.

I think Okami should get the chance at one of them. It seems that Bisping/Hendo winner will be facing the winner of Silva/Leites. I think Okami should match up against either Marquardt or Maia and the winner should be the new #1 contender. Anyways I'll take Marquardt.

Very hard to go against Maia on this one. His stand up has improved a lot and he might be to much in the ground, even for a guy like Nate.
I do think that Nate has more ways to control and win the fight, possibly a decision or another flurry of strikes, but Maia is to good in the ground.

As everyone knows Maia is dangerous on the ground but Nate has looked really good lately, he looks like he polished off his skills from when we last saw him, problem with Maia is that he's only dangerous on the ground...his striking didn't look too good against Sonnen and I think Nate would take advantage of that
As of now, I think Nate would take it no doubt and I'm sure he would probably finish the fight early too. I was not really impressed with Maia's striking against Sonnen, I was expecting to see more improvement so if he continues to work on that and improves then Maia would definitely gain an advantage over him but right now Nate is way too well-rounded of a fighter for him to beat

As much as I like Maia, I think Nate is just too well rounded at this point. Seriously, that guy looked like a beast. Gouveia is a really game opponent at 185 and Nate totally worked him.
and Nates BJJ has came a long freakin way since losing to Almeida. Give Maia 1 or 2 more fights though and he should have time to improve his stand up and get some more exp, then it'd probably be one for the ages
and for the record, I think Nate Marquardt would school Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin at 185, and He could very well be champion at the end of 09. You can really tell he's been training hard with the rest of team jackson
but then again...Maia is very, very good at getting the fight to the ground, So it's not like he would'nt have a chance

I would also have to go with the Great in this fight as well. Nate is very well rounded and has far more experience with the best of the best. I do not think this is a fight that should happen. I think if you are going to make these two fight you are losing out on one of two very good #1 contenders to fight Silva. I think the more guys at the top the better rather than having the top guys pick each other off. I also think Maia should have at least two more fights before reaching the top, not that he is a bad fighter, completely opposite, the man is amazing but a couple more fights to gain experience would be excellent for him.
