That can be skewed when you only throw a couple of punches per fight.

In the Herring fight Lesnar threw 95 punches landing 40 of them.

In the Couture fight Lesnar threw 86 punches landing 45 of them.

Theres no data from Lesnar/Mir 1 though.

In Mir/Nog Mir threw something like 115 punches landing 65 or so (just going off memory)

To say that Brock has improved his sub defense (with no valid fights to back that up) and then to turn around and say that Mir's standup has not improved (when it is obvious that it has judging by his last fight) is, IMO, not valid.
I dont think Mir's stand up is all that good, even watching the Nog/Mir fight again. He learned to throw a combo against a BJJ guy. It was a solid game plan and worked well. I dont think Nog expected it. Wouldve been a completely different story if it were against Couture. I dont think we'd be talking about Mir's stand up at all.

But your point about Brock being a 1 punch stand up guy is false. Of those stats above, it was about 50/50 in regards to stand up/GnP.

I was never happy that the first fight was stood back up with no warning!

So what, Mir outboxed Nog! I'm not impressed when jabs knocked down Nog. Mir fought an old shadow of a Great fighter!

Brock by TKO!

This statement by itself is absolutely inane; I don't think anyone doubts that Brock could bench more than Mir, or that his hands are bigger, but to list that as a PRINCIPAL factor in this fight is questionable. People said the same thing about Gonzaga and Sylvia when they fought Randy

"Brock only has to worry about being submitted from the bottom."--Lesnar is a wrestler; exactly where do you think Mir is going to be if this fight hits the ground. No way does Brock have any confidence in his own guard yet.

"Brock is much quicker than Mir (footwork, boxing)."--Did you see the Mir/Nog fight? Mir's striking has improved by leaps and bounds; while Brock's is solid, its not there yet.

Look, Lesnar can win this fight, I'm not disputing that. But anyone who writes off either of these fighters is severely shortsighted.
I know everyone wants to talk about how great Mirs standup was against Nog but everyone needs to settle down a bit. Yes Mir did show good hand spead and power against Nog. I think alittle of this is cause Nog wasnt himself. Mir has a chance to prove me wrong in this fight. Besides Franks last fight when has anyone ever said he has good hands?? What against Wes Sims? I think most people would say that Randy had far better hands then Mir right?? Well look what happend to Randy. Brock is going to tear through Frank like he did in the first fight till the dam Ref cost him the fight.

remember when everyone was like big nog is going to run right through mir and no one on the planet gave mir a chance? and then mir trained like a crazed man, and he's already a extremely intelligent fighter, and took out big nog. he picked him apart and destroyed him. i dont care if you argue and say that nog didn't look good at all, mir was very impressive.

i think mir is going to take this, and i'd really like him too. if not, then i guess we're automatically set up for a mir/lesnar III.

either way, im excited for this fight!

To be honest this fight could go either way but an interesting thing I've noticed is that Mir is almost always under rated going into these fights. I really do hope Mir can pull off a win in this fight again but as jlruthven said "anyone who writes off either of these fighters is severely shortsighted".

Brock does not have to be the best striker in the world, he is so powerful that any strike that lands from him could be terminal. In the Couture fight, the elbow Brock threw did not look like much but did it ever rock Couture.

Hate Brock, and hoping for Mir, but Brock is so powerful, he is going to be hard to beat.
