Dana says that a catchweight makes no sense as it's not for the title but I GUARANTEE that if GSP and Silva both agreed to a 177.5 lb catchweight that he'd immediately put that fight together.

Tito Ortiz's advice was probably to leave the UFC and get some wins so that people will have something more to talk about than PED abuse.

Cyborg saying a doctor said she would die is her trying to save face. It backfired.

Look at the facts. She never attempted a diet overhaul. If Cyborg wanted to she could make the cut over an extended period of time. She just straight up said she would die if she even attempted to.

Ortiz is a businessman and there is a reason he got into managing fighters instead of becoming a commentator.

Cyborg vs. Rousey could happen immediately after Rousey's fight but it would have nowhere near the amount of profit via % of buyrate than it would in the future. Rousey vs Cyborg would make a helluvalot more when Rousey is 3, maybe 5 fights as champ. By then Cyborg's stigma is gone and she will have had more time to shed some muscle and maybe get herself situated well at 135 after capturing the 145 title.

As Dana White said, there is no point for Zuffa to promote Rousey vs Cyborg if it doesn't have title implications. This fight will happen at 135 (the most populated weight class for females with the second being 115) or it will never happen.

Cris Cyborg, Tito Ortiz believe Invicta move will sweeten pot for eventual Rousey clash - MMA Fighting

"Everyone wants to do interviews with us and everyone wants to know what’s going on," Ortiz said in a joint interview with Cyborg on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour. "I guess Cyborg really is relevant no matter what."

That last statement came as a sort of retort to UFC president Dana White, who said at one point last week that Cyborg was presently "irrelevant" in his UFC picture. However, there was a little more to the story, in that White had floated to Cyborg and Ortiz the opportunity to sign a Zuffa contract but compete in Invicta, on Zuffa's dime, until they could figure out the future together.

Cyborg and Ortiz declined that opportunity. Cyborg said she was opposed to the eight-fight deal proposed by Zuffa because she could see nothing for her on the horizon past the bout with Rousey. Ortiz added that the salary increases offered in the deal were "not much at all."

Given those two factors, they chose to strike out on their own, independently reaching a deal with Invicta, the upstart women's fight promotion that has produced four events to date.

The hope is that Cyborg can string together a win streak that increases her profile and puts more pressure on Zuffa to bring her back into the fold to face Rousey. If Cyborg can get past Gomes in her debut, she would next be paired off with Marloes Coenen, a well-respected former Strikeforce champion at 135 pounds who has since returned to her past weight class of 145. Such a win would certainly cause many observers to take notice.

"Do three fights, show how dominant she can be in three fights, then we can negotiate and show what’s she’s truly worth," Ortiz said. "I'm going to do my part as a promoter and manager of getting her name huge and showing everybody that she’s a force to be reckoned with and never to be forgotten."

When it comes to Rousey-Cyborg, Ortiz and Cyborg are also sticking to their guns on the catch weight provision. Ortiz said that Cyborg tried a practice cut down to 135 pounds but was cut off before she ever got close.

"People say 'take muscle off,'" he said. "Well, she’s been fighting at this weight her whole career and muscle memory is not something that is lost quick."

Ortiz believes that the UFC does want to do the fight, and that eventually they will. In his estimation, doing the fight at a 140-pound catch weight means that Cyborg is the one sacrificing the most. While she has to cut an extra five pounds, Rousey will have a much easier cut than she used to. And, he also points out, the UFC conveniently discusses catch weight fights in other instances.

"Why would they keep talking about GSP vs. Anderson Silva? Why would they talk about Jonny "Bones" Jones vs. Anderson Silva?" he asked. "Then all of the sudden when they talk about Cris Cyborg vs. Ronda Rousey, it's never going to happen, no possible way."

For her part, Cyborg said she is happy with her newly established path, saying she is pleased that she can fight in April and restart her career. From there, it's forward momentum. She doesn't plan to be in Anaheim, California this weekend to watch the history-making fight between Rousey and Cyborg, but aside from that, her sights remain focused on the same target.

"I’m leaving from the UFC, but she’s still in my line," she said. "I want to fight her. I don't want to talk about her more but I really want to fight her. I feel the fight will happen. Maybe she’s now happy because we can’t fight soon but she hasn't proven herself to be the best in the world, she did not fight me. I hope the fight happens. She's in my line."

Ortiz Responds to Botched Press Conference: Focus is on Cyborg’s Future
    http://www.bjpenn.com/ortiz-responds...+NEWS+BLOGS%29
Following the press conference, which aired live on AXSTV, he joined Ariel Helwani in an interview on the “MMA Hour.” Tito answered questions about the conference with the following statement:

“Yes, I’m happy, just because I wanted to let (everyone) know the future of Cris Cyborg and what she is going to be doing. That was my main goal, just letting people know what she is going to be doing. But, in general? No, not really. I think I got some work to do, but, you know, (I) set up the whole press conference myself, literally. From the stage, the podium to the banners to the PR, press, everything, the people being there, I kind of put a little too much on my plate. And to go live TV on AXS television, this is as nervous as I’ve ever been with anything I’ve ever done with anything about mixed martial arts and I was so nervous because instead of holding my career, I’m holding someone else’s career. I’ll get better in time, as Dana White said. I’ll get better. I just got to do a little more work and just make sure to get more comfortable on live television. I’m just so used to doing it during fights. You don’t have nervousness after fights because your emotions are high. But making sure you say the right things for people to understand you, it’s going to take a little work for me I guess. It’s just time for me to slow down and explore exactly what I’m trying to say. It’s going to take work and I will get better.”

To me if anybody could beat Ronda it's Cyborg, but being realistic if you want the womens div to last. It has a better shot of getting off the ground faster with Ronda than the manly looking beast. Not saying it's all right but truefull

GSP's standup was like Anderson Silva's compared to Rousey's... No one can stop here takedowns and armbars, simple as that... not very surprisings... WMMMA is not deep in any division.

“This women’s thing is coming together. When I talk to Joe (Silva) and Sean Shelby, we have 10 of the best 135-pounders in the world. We’re gonna do this division. We’re going to see how this fight goes down or whatever,” said White.
have i missed something? has the ufc released an actual list of the women they have for the 135 division? cuz i'm sure I've only heard of 6 maybe?

he wants to remove any viable source of criticism for Rousey.

When AO tests hot, he's suspended and--on paper--one single squash match away from a shot at the champion. When Santos tests hot she's a crazy bitch with a fake doctors note.

Mind you, I'm not a Santos fan, and I believe she can easily make 135, but that she doesn't want to. And while I'm not a fan of Rousey either; I just want to see people treated with equity and consistency.

The two most well-rounded and talented WMMA fighters in history--Carano and Cyborg--are not 135.

    LOL.

The only flaw in Dana's reasoning is that he created the 135 pd division PURELY FOR ROUSEY. So of coarse she's the champion at that weight. Where's the 145 pd women's division? Oh yeah, there isn't one because there's not a Ronda Rousey at that weight. He's in fucking love with her and it's obvious.

Rousey competed well above 135 in the olympics. She then talked a lot of shit on Cyborg, herself, but then can't meet her at a MUTUAL weight, in the middle...she doesn't want to fight Cyborg. Of coarse Cyborg tested positive for Roids which is shitty, but still, I hate hearing someone so annoying such as Rousey talk tons of shit and be unwilling to back it up.

To those debating about which Women's weight class has more talent...well, neither has much talent at all to be honest. That's just the reality. When you have a host of people getting armbarred in under a minute when they know exactly what's coming...uhh, I'll just say that shit doesn't happen in mens mma.
