I agree with this. From the fans standpoint it creates the best opportunity for avenging/solidifying losses and clearing up the status of the main fighters in question. From a tournament perspective, it is unusual, but for the fans, it answers the most questions without having as much potential for creating more.

Fedor needs to fight AO at any time. Who gives a shit. I want all this to come to a rest. Fedor def. AO via arm triangle... Then wins GP. I want this to happen more than anything in the world

First off this isn't an announcement by Strikeforce but rather an article by cagepotato. Anyone assuming that Strikeforce is assuming Fedor will win his first round fight needs a course in media literacy.

Also the amount of negative comments on the fighters is a little surprising. Lets wait until something happens before we start dismissing this tournament or it's participants.

I am very surprised to see Overeem and Fedor on the same side of bracket though. Would like to see Fedor-Silva on the other side instead of Arlovski-Kharitonov. Then we could potentially see Barnett-Fedor as a semi final (I still want to see that fight after Affliction folded) and a potential final of Fedor-Overeem.

If barnett has steroid problems, so will overeem. I think neither will be tested though.

Fedor isnt going to pull out of this tournament.

Fedor TKOs silva and subs overeem. Meanwhile, Barnett rides AA to a decision, subs kharitonov, and then Barnett vs Fedor in the finals. Barnett wins with Head kick KO.

Same here, three favorites, in one side, in other side barnett might be favorite, but he has some much issues that, I would prefer one of those werdum, fedor or overeem fighting on barnett's bracket. Let's just pray that shit happens.
Tennis fan here, sorry I have to nit pick. Real tournaments are seeded by rank, so with the exception of Fed being No.3 for a short while last year and Nadal being injured before that, Nadal and Federer would never meet in the Semis since for the past 5 years they have been #1 and #2 non stop except for the times I mentioned.

Unfortunately this tournament isn't sorted out like a tennis or other sport tournament bracket would be. Still not complaining, and trying not to be negative because there are some ballin fights to be had here!

there's a lot of potential rematches here now that i actually think about it.

one of which is fedor and AA. I actually kinda wanna see how that fight would have gone without that excellent flying knee that knocked Fedo...oh wait

Yes,in the beginning of the article is claims Fedor to be in the second round already, thats awesome. I bet BigFoot feels good reading that

Everyone in this tournament could win,but you know they wont unless the left bracket bows out. AA is a shadow of himself, Rogers was destroyed in his last two fights, Khar hasnt won much in the last few years, and was beaten in K-1 just a while ago, and then Barnett is,and always will be considered a cheater. Chances are Fedor doesnt make it into the second round due to M-1, so AO and Werdum are left, AO will probably take a leave to fight in Japan, with DREAM or K-1. This tournament is reaking of disaster, cant wait.
