TUF winner vs. former HW champ sells better than fat guy vs muscle guy or guy with too much hair on his head vs guy with no hair on his head would.

Attaching a "former champ" moniker on someone immediately makes their fights more marketable. Personally I feel like the only reason the UFC even makes interim belts is just to pimp out the "champ vs. champ" crap, just to milk another dollar out of a fight.

How many times have you heard someone say "THE FORMER INTERIM CHAMP GEORGES ST. PIERRE" ? Interim champs who win the unification fight are refered to as the champ or former champ. The interim champs who lose the unification fight are forever known as the former interim champ.

Given potential rematches, I think Carwin beats lesnar 9 out of 10 times...and he's already lost the one.

But yes, I knew what you meant.

Unfortunately, the business side of things has impacted title shots tremendously. Interim champs could do a lot, but most often, they don't.

Condit could have done a lot to really bring his interim status from a place-holder for GSP into something special, but he chose to wait. If he beats Georges in November, fanboys are going to immediately attribute it to the long layoff St. Pierre had, and demand a rematch. On the other hand, if Condit had taken the opportunity to beat up some other contenders while Georges heals, he'd have momentum and more credit going into the bout.

But all in all, it was a smart, responsible business decision, much like smart, responsible fighters would make. It's just that the general public wants to respect fighters for being fighters, not for being smart and responsible. Condit could also have fought, and lost, and thus losing his chance. Nogs could tell him a thing or two about that.

For Carwin's sake I hope the fight ends quickly either by Roy KO or subbing him. I don't think I could recover from the chronic laughing episode if Carwin gases again and gets out-cardio'd by a bearded fat guy. Young Santa takes it late in round 1.
