Gomi was scheduled to fight Hughes, but Gomi lost to BJ Penn. Dana was in the audience that night, and booked the first Penn vs. Hughes fight. The rest is history.

I remember Hughes talking about fighting Anderson on more than one occasion. The most recent was just before that Thiago Alves fight.

Hughes and Silva were supposed to fight at UFC 36 but visa issues got in the way.

    You sir are awesome!

Glad Hughes didn't hang em up back then. I might not be as big of an mma if he had.

In before the Anderson-ites start saying Hughes is a more interesting fight then weidman, and Weidman should have to fight a grizzly bear before he's a contender.

This made me wonder if it was a jab at GSP, a little push for him to fight Silva. But maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

i would have picked hughes over anderson (hughes in top UFC form and silva in his not-nearly-there pride form) at the time. but when he was talking about facing silva three years ago? yeesh. steve mazzagatti would have stopped the fight at the weigh-in

Very. Hughes' wrestling, top game, and GnP would have made that a very intersting fight. Same reason I really want to see Silva take on GSP, just not at 170. But before this gets carried away, lets not turn this into another GSP/Silva thread
