It's not often I agree with Pashak, but mousasi has been a top fighter for years. Much like Bigfoot Silva he'd been overlooked. I don't know if he will make a run for the title, but I wouldn't be surprised. He has a champions mentality, much like a Carlos Condit. If he loses it will either be very sudden or a brutal bitter fight. I'd wager the latter more likely....

It's kind of hard to look at the Mousasi fight with any real critique. A fight with a late replacement opponent, with a completely different style, who he has nothing to gain by winning or losing to, is not a fight you look at too seriously.

Mousasi probably could have gone out and smashed the guy, but Mousasi basically got a freebie where he could get actual octagon experience. He made the right call. I'm not saying he let the clock run to a decision, but not being in a rush to finish wasn't the worst move he could have made.

Only thing you can really say is that he won and now has a win under his belt in the UFC, allowing him to be comfortable in his next match.

    Dominant? Yes.

    Impressive? Far from it.
People need to realize that he prepared for an opponent who is the exact opposite of who he had to fight. He probably trained most of his camp practicing getting on the inside to light goose up.. then he ends up fighting a shorter, stalkier, wrestler last minute. I'm sure that fucked up his rhythm a bunch and made him more unsure/unprepared. Not to mention he still accepted the fight with his busted up knee.

    Mousasi looked very solid.
It was not an outstanding performance but it was a very solid one. He also had a knee injury and his movement looked great.

I do not think at all that Mousasi had the same gameplan for Gustafsson. He and his coaches are not retards and they know much better than anyone of us what gameplan would be the correct one for Gus.

Mousasi is in my opinion a future champion. Soon he will easily be a Top 5 fighter.

Also, I love his attitude of "I do not care at all about anyone or anything".
Pfff, Latifi seriously thought that he would mentally affect Mousasi with his taunting at the end of the first round? LOL

we know mousasi's potential is sky high. doesn't seem like he'll lose any face from this win, and if anything it will raise some awareness for his next fight, (which i assume will be against gustafsson)

Lacking in big names, it was good entertaining card probably exactly what we should expect out of a FuelTV card giving its limited viewership.

I think it's a bit unfair to be over critical of the main event given the circumstances. Mousasi was really in a no win situation so I don't blame him for playing it safe. Latifi stepped up and the Rocky-esque opportunity gave the fight more drama than it ultimately deserved. It is what it is, we can move on.

Pickett vs. Easton the fight I had pegged as the most interesting and the two top ten bantam weights did not disappoint. What a great fight!

I'm still disappointed Gustafsson was injured, the kid is really growing on me. I'm confident he would have been a handful for Mousasi. A giant LHW, athletic with a tremendous upside... I wonder if they now hot shot him to fight Jones next or if they decide to showcase him against a guy like Mousasi first.

Gegard - "Some guys get takedowns and lay and pray, maybe I did that a bit with my standup."

He knows it wasn't his best outing, he played it safe, while citing an injury. I give him the benefit of the doubt.

Would like to see him fight the winner of Shogun / Lil Nog
