This might sound crazy but he was one of my all time favorite fighters. I think it's the right move though as injuries have kept him away for too long, he's getting old, has a solid career he can still be financially stable with, and likely won't be able to achieve the same level of success without steroids (personally whether he did them or not doesn't affect my opinion of him).

Thanks for the epic knockouts Shane!

WOw I didn't know that info on him about the roids. Granted its not definite, but he never spoke about it or denied it. Now maybe I have an idea why Sak was laughing about his retirement

Then, someone on the UG, who does ALL his media relations, tells me that he never tweets and it's always someone else. Curiously, a fan asked him about this at UFC 118 Boston UFC Fan Expo and he had a similar reaction, but in real life. I saw him get pissed and walk away...

Definitely a roider, IMO and honestly? Irrelevant in the division even if he came back, injuries, JDS-loss, etc

I remember reading that Shane Carwin's shopping history included Trenbolone, Testosterone, Stanozolol, and Nandrolone. After the scandal came out, he only fought once (against JDS) and he was noticeably smaller/weaker. He never made a statement regarding the steroids, not even to deny it. He also refused VADA testing against Roy. And now, after enough time has passed, he has chosen to retire.

In my opinion, the main reason he was successful was because he possessed massive KO power, using short punches, even from positions that normally don't generate that much power.

And I truly believe that steroids were the reason he possessed that massive KO power.

Without that strength, I don't think he would ever have been a top 10 fighter.

His "retirement" is similar to a criminal politician "quietly stepping down" to avoid having all his misdeeds come to light.

    Good riddance.

Yeah, I was scratching my head over this one too. He is the same guy that calls the whambulance any time someone he thinks is fighter bashing, but is laughing over a fighter having to retire..... makes sense.

I think he deserves to retire with honor and respect for being one of the most exciting HW fighters to step foot in the cage. JMO.

Would have been nice to see him get another fight, but at least he's going out with all of his most of his brain cells intact.
