Mike Pyle: Taking Offense To Diaz Tweet Is “Nonsense”
EXCLUSIVE | Mike Pyle: Taking Offense To Diaz Tweet Is “Nonsense” | BJPENN.COM RADIO MMA News | Mixed Martial Arts | UFC News | BJPenn | MMA Fight | UFC Fights

“I’ll be honest with you, with some of them that are good at it, I find it entertaining. It’s just not part of my personality is all. I don’t think it’s wrong, I don’t think it’s right, or whatever. It’s not right or wrong, it’s just entertaining. I’ll be honest with you, you get some laughs out of it, and you entertain. When it comes down to it, you gotta entertain and you gotta perform that night. You gotta back up all that s*** you’re talking, you got to back it all up, and you got to show up; because if you don’t, it’s kind of embarrassing.”

Among his favorite trash-talkers are Chael Sonnen and Nick and Nate Diaz.

“Of course Chael Sonnen. He’s great on the mic. He knows how to get out there, he knows how to pick a fight. No matter what type of media it is, he’ll find a way to pick a fight. Kudos to him for that, he can get it done, and he can fight. Diaz, I always find him, both Diaz brothers, I find them entertaining as hell.”

Nate Diaz has received some backlash from his antics outside the ring, receiving a $20,000 fine and a 90-day suspension from the UFC for his Tweets about Bryan Caraway. The UFC stated that “language used in his tweet was regrettable, offensive and inconsistent with the values and culture of the organization, and is not tolerated.”

For Pyle, he says he understands Diaz did not intend to be homophobic or insensitive, but rather that the Stockton fighter was upset over the UFC’s treatment of Pat Healy whose $65,000 bonus for Submission of the Night at UFC 159 went to Bryan Caraway.

“I mean, come on, if you do something stupid,” Pyle said of Diaz’s word-choice which led to the controversy, “someone will be like, ‘Don’t be gay, come on.’ And you use it out of context. I believe it was just stupid for all that… [But] when you’re on the social media like that, people are looking at you. People are listening to what you got to say. They want to hear. People want to find good, and people want to find bad. A lot of times the good gets overlooked, and they’ll find something bad real quick. You got to deal with it then.”

Pyle would reiterate that the entire situation was a misunderstanding and a bit of an overreaction, but he did say that it’s one of the risks one takes when engaging in social media.

“Yeah, that’ such nonsense for someone to take offense to that,” said Pyle, “but that’s what you get when you’re blasting things out on social media, there are a lot of toes you can step on. There’s a lot of, obviously, a lot [in] the gay and lesbian community out there that pays attention to the mixed martial arts as well, and obviously are involved in it. So you got to pick and choose your battles. I think he was just a little hot-headed, and he had something to say. He just didn’t really think it through.”

    Supe is correct.

Pretty sure if you call a homosexual that could waste your ass a fag, you'd be toast. In the same way that you call any other group a slur. Were I gay, I'd still think it is offensive. The meaning of the word has not changed, just as every single ethnic slur has not lost the oomph.

Just because you used it when you were a teenager doesn't mean it has gone away. In civil society, people don't wander around calling each other fags or homos.

In no way should low-brow under-educated thug, who has mentally prolonged adolescence,

be defended from public scrutiny because of freedom of speech.
lighten up.....it was a joke. obviously you didn't see the episode

Gay slurs are hurtful? Newsflash, all insults are hurtful, just some are just so mentally weak they need to bring in special rules to protect their sad little feelings.

A lot of keyboard warrior BS and then me inadvertently starting a rumor that Nick Ring came out of the closet. I think you were right, Kevo.
