I am pretty sure that Gus landed more punches, or at least much more significant punches.

I think that had more to do with kicks than boxing. I don't agree with his coach, but Goose definitely impressed me.

Gus has good hands but best boxing? No. Jones has no hands and the fact that his cheap oblique kicks couldn't keep Gus back showed how bad his striking defense is when he can't run from an opponent.

Edgar, Silva, even Gsp has shown some improvement in his boxing as well

I'd would have to agree with his trainer in some sense. I think GUS showed remarkable hands against Jones, hit jones with punches that Jones usually doesn't get hit with. His reach was a factor, but you need to be able to deliver the punches, use footwork, gauge distance and range, reset your hands for defense, transition from defense to offense, and throw the right punches at the right angles. Gus did all of those things that night and tore Jones up. People keep talking about jones moving up to HW, but Gus could cause the HW division more problems with his hands.

To me, JDS and Anderson are better boxers. Nick Diaz has very good offensive boxing, but he eats tons of punches aswell.

When Eddie Alvarez doesn't get into a brawl, I would say his boxing is at the top.

I assume I must irrationally believe Goose's trainer now.

    very very good boxing.
Best in MMA is very subjective.
*note: a lot say JDS-Nobody that get pummelled like him has the best boxing*
