Luke Barnatt has some lofty goals, but he can state each one – including a desired fight with fellow middleweight Francis Carmont – with remarkable clarity.
The 25-year-old English fighter, who appeared on “The Ultimate Fighter 17,” wants Carmont (22-8 MMA, 6-1 UFC) for two reasons: Barnatt (8-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) thinks he can put on an exciting fight with the grinder, and he thinks a win would move him up the rankings.
“He’s a big guy just like me,” Barnatt recently told MMAjunkie. “But you’ve seen my output. I have a very, very high output. And Francis is a bit slower. He’s very powerful and a strong guy, but I just feel like stylistically, it’s an exciting fight. He’s a top-10 guy. He’s a guy I could take on, and it’d be a very, very big step up for me, and an exciting step.
” … He doesn’t push for the finish. All I do is look for the finish.”
Barnatt also explains why he wants to be a “TUF” coach and how European MMA can eventually get to the level seen in the U.S.
