Werdum fought smart and at his natural pace. If he sensed an opportunity I'm sure he would have taken it. But HE'S the one in there fighting, he knows how his body feels, he's watching his opponent. And if he didn't feel it, then he did the smart thing and continued to fight his fight. Had he rushed in and gotten caught and finished, then what? Browne hung in there and finished the fight, he had a history if coming back and striking out of no where to win a fight. Werdum made the smart call. If that's called fighting "safe", then it is what it is.

Well Werdum pretty much agreed during the press conference he was aware of Browne's power and wanted to play it smart because of the title implications. Still a great performance though the criticism of Alistair's win over Mir was more justified in my opinion.

I agree, i think Werdum did fight a great fight. But in the last two rounds he should of went for the TD, whch he would of gotten and showcased his BJJ with a submission win.

On another note, how do people think he will stack up against Cain?

Well, that's one way of looking at it.

Another way is to say that Werdum was boned out of a title shot previously when he didn't play it safe. Yet another way is to say that the HW elite is the most dangerous part of the division--most guys can finish a fight if there is even one serious mistake by their opponent...so if Fabricio miscalculated at all in going for broke, he could have gotten beaten, and he could have lost more than just a fight and the title shot--with the tendency for dana to cut guys making about what Fabricio makes after just one loss, I'd say there was more pressure to be a bit conservative. And I say a bit conservative, because I think he fought a great fight and let his hands go much more than usual. I don't think he fought safe.

Ok, I'll do it. If you know you've got the promotion, then why take any unnecessary chances. He isn't gonna get two title fights by finishing Browne. I'm not saying if he let up or not. I'm saying there was no reason to take any risk what so ever. I get pissy when a wrestler gets bashed for being dominate, but it applies here too. If Browne would have made the first few rounds competitive, or at least not obvious, then Werdum never would have had the option to ease up. I'm not actually blaming Browne for anything. He is tough as nails, and I enjoyed the fight (except for I wanted Browne to win). What I'm trying to say is, stop blaming the winner for a boring fight. It's always the losers fault that he didn't hold up his end.

Come on, Dana was right here. Werdum knew the score and coasted for the last 2 rounds at least. He was hitting Travis with just about any shot and let off the gas even though he knew we wasnt in danger. Fight properly but I think he could of got the finish, for sure could of scored a TD and worked a sub.

I'd have to agree. The last two rounds Werdum was just throwing one or two shots and then backed out. Certainly a good game plan but definitely played it safe

Werdum did very well. Travis is a very dangerous fighter and Werdum outstruck him pretty well.
It was not the most exciting fight obviously but it was a very good performance by Werdum. Dana is full of shit as usual.

Browne is durable as fuck. Pretty disappointing fight though. I was really expecting Hapa to deliver another good KO
