Shamrock needs to learn that if he does not defend himself (which he wasn't, his arms were at his waist) the fight will be stopped. The ref is not there to stop the fight when one fighter has taken too much punishment because that is too hard to define, you can't see brain damage. The ref is there to stop the fight when one fighter is unable to intelligently defend himself OR when the doctor says a fighter is unable to safely continue.

Look at Shamrocks last 3 fights:
Franklin - Shamrock falls on his back, doesn't bring his hands up or pull guard and gets hit in the face a few times. THe ref stops the fight because Shamrock is not defending

Sakuraba - Shamrock catches a left on the chin, stumbles backwards and then turns around and sticks his head out the ropes (to protect himself according to shammy). The ref stops the fight because turning your back and sticking your head out of the ropes is not an intelligent defense

Tito - Shamrock takes 5 consecutive elbows to the face while doing nothing about it, he wasn't trying to get wrist control to stop them, he wasn't trying to pull Tito down and stop them, he didn't even really have his hands up. The ref stops the fight because Shamrock is not defending.

As for the whole "The UFC is out to get me" conspiracy, I'm sure some of the shit on TUF was editing BUT you still have to give them material to use for the editing. Ken brought in crappy coaches, clashed with his fighters every step of the way, and obviously was there for a rematch with Tito not to coach the guys on the show. Tito on the otherhand turned out to be a brilliant coach. There is only one logical way to edit that together.
Amen to that. I am not a Shamrock hater and use to be quite a big fan of his, back in the day. He is a washed up fighter and refuses to admit it. Unfortunately, this tarnishes everything he accomplished when he was in his prime. It is a sad story that is repeated over and over in every sport imaginable (Muhammed Ali, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, and Joe Montana to name a few).

Shamrock did wonders for the UFC back in the mid 90's. Even when he was wrestling in the WWF (WWE now), he was bringing attention to the MMA world and the UFC in particular. He was a very good fighter (not great in my opinion, but just like asses and elbows, everyone has an opinion) and was an excellent spokesman.

He wants the glory years back and time hasn't been kind to him. Hell, even age caught up to Couture, and I think a 40 year old Couture would have wiped the floor with an in-his-prime Shamrock.

In the end, Shamrock lost and he hates it. I agree it sould have gone another 5 or 10 seconds, but in the end it was for his won good.

This was Ken's special "ass" defense again Sakuraba.

The bottom line is that Shamrock is almost right. The UFC isn't out to ruin him, they're out to glorify Tito. Ken just happens to be in the unfortunate position of being Tito's rival. Dana is as deceitful a propaganda machine as there is, and he sees Tito as a meal ticket. That said, he's going to give Tito everything he can to keep the hype going until someone punches that whiny bitch's head off in the ring, and Dana is forced to admit that Tito Ortiz ain't this golden boy that he wants us to believe he is. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't take another fight with Tito either if I was Ken. Definitely not in the UFC at least. I'd fight in the UFC against someone else, just not Tito, if I was Ken. The next grudge match I want to see is Ken Shamrock versus Dana. Think about it - Ken's so old and washed up and a total nobody now right? Why shouldn't Dana man up and take a fight with Ken then? He used to box right? He wants to spar with Tito, right? He slings curses to show everyone how hard core he is, right? Let's see him back it up. Dana vs. Ken - I'd buy that Pay Per View.

taz.... Thats weak. The poor old bastard gave his ALL to this sport. Thats right, its now called a real sporting event. Thanks to guys like Ken Shamrock. His blood, sweat and tears helped build this MMA world up.To what it is today and will be in the future. Yes, he old, hes lost a step or two. He's now getting bashed from all sides, from young guys like you, that think they know wtf its all about,To the other fighters that have also dismissed him, as washed up. He's feelin low, no doubt. Wait till you get the middle age blues, and see your fate way clearer. If, you make it as far as Ken and other old dogs like me have. He may be done, looks like it.But I will allways give him his props.

All of what I just said. Backs up Kens point that he, as a member of a small fraternity of ledgendary fighters. He should of be giving the chance to go out like the man he is. Only a KO,Blood bath TKO. or him tappin is what should of happened. I agree with him on those points. He deserved more. wheather he was gonna get fucked up or not. I have not seen the whole fight, and assume given another 10 seconds or so it would have been a done deal, to bad will never know now.

Yeah..he said that he felt that he had the fight won, was just going to take it easy for the first round, lay on his back and take the punishment and let Tito tire out, and then come back in the later rounds and knock Tito out.

He also said that he thinks there is a conspiracy or plot in the ufc to ruin his career and to make him look bad, and that the incorrect way he was portrayed on the show and the quick stoppage was proof of that.

He also said the stoppage was wrong because he was a HOF'er in a grudge match and therefore he should have been allowed to let his fight go untill someone was out cold, crippled, or at least or had to go to the hospital.

Then he said that Herb Dean knows he made a bad call and just doesn't have the balls to admit it.

Whenever they pressed him about a rematch..he said this big conspiracy, plot, or whatever it is....is what is making him not want to do it because he doesn't want to give Dana and the ufc another chance to make him look worse or further hurt his future career.

All things considered...it was the most delusional, pathetic, fantasy filled, pitiful example of an old washed-up punch-drunk guy that is totally locked into denial mode that I have ever heard in my life.

The guy's career has been circling the drain for a while now...and someone should get out the crayons and draw him a picture of a clue....FFS.

Can you give a little more detail? I am stuck on dial-up, and downloading videos is not something that can be accomplished in this century.

Thanks for the link. Shamrock cries the whole time. On the other hand, Bas Rutten gives a great interview that is very entertaining. Check out this quote from him regarding his diet:

"It is all natural of course. All that steroid crap is for homos who don't have the balls to fight without it."

    He is a great interview.
