My bad on the name, doing that almost nagates my entire post. lol. Vera has my respect as a fighter, no doubt. So does Tito, the only problems with the shit talking take other ranges at different times. The minute Vera looks bad in a fight and tells Sherdog that his opponent had grease on the back of his legs, preventing him from being taken down, I will no longer like him. Tito does these things, seemingly to make himself look as good as he can, which is arrogance. Vera expresses cockiness, which I hold in a different regard I guess (If you consider there to be a difference)
It's scary how much I agree with this guy on several different points, not only about this specific event, but general stuff he said like "I think people let their favorites blind them from what is really happening in a fight" and "lacks the instincts it requires to be a champion in the UFC".
The only disagreements are it's Alessio not Assuerio, and I am finally on the Vera bandwagon, whereas prior to last night I would of said even the same shit about Vera.
After looking up and down in this, plus Sherdog’s thread, it is amazing to see the varying opinions on UFC 60, here are mine.
I’m not sure why, but I had a feeling that Swick was going to make quick work on Riggs. Riggs has been off and on ever since his big loss to Matt Hughes. Swick has been on fire, stopping his opponents in the first round in his last three fights. They were both afraid to exchange, which is no surprise for two strikers. When Swick threw that kick, it jarred Riggs who automatically went for a takedown. Now, if you are jarred from a kick to the head, why would you immediately go for a takedown on someone as explosive as Swick? The answer leads to what we all now know, Riggs lacks the instincts it requires to be a champion in the UFC or anywhere.
As soon as Silva expressed anger after an apparent thumb in the eye from Vera, I knew Vera had him. Once again, someone was dumb enough to let themselves get caught in a guillotine that had no setup. Vera, ever the shit talker, made himself look like an idiot immediately after the fight. Whether he stays in the heavyweight division, or drops down to 205, I expect we will be hearing this shit talking for years to come. If he does go down to 205, a match with Tito Ortiz would probably guarantee the most entertaining prelim talk of all time.
Everyone says Sanchez had been defeated last night, that the judges were apparently not doing their jobs. Here’s the thing... It was a close fight, but if Diego is coming forward, landing blows with Assuerio, gets his back from the last half of the third round, he’s going to win. The rules stated at the beginning of the show that judging is based on “Effective striking, aggressiveness and octagon control.” Assuerio showed great striking, Diego showed aggressiveness and CONTROLLED the octagon from start to finish. Sure, that should constitute a split decision, but what does it matter? The winner of that battle still won the fight. I think people let their favorites blind them from what is really happening in a fight. If this were some sort of gimmick, special challenge “Stuff the other fighters take downs” match, Assuerio won unanimously.
Lister was surgical with his technique last night. Sakara wanted to strike, Lister wanted it on the ground and now we know why. Now, if Lister is looking to chase Rich Franklin at 185, he had better learn to stand up. His stand up looked ugly, and his impressive victory will look like nothing if he goes down to 185 and gets knocked out on his feet.
The main event was ugly. Royce has a strategy, but had no time to implement it. Hughes is stronger, faster, and just overall a better wrestler. I was pulling for Royce and when it went to the ground I knew anything could happen. It did, Royce gave Hughes his back and got pummeled until Big John had seen enough.
It was a great card, Swick came out and showed he really has what it takes to be top 5 in the 185 division. Sanchez added another victory to his undefeated record be being aggressive long after he knew his original strategy would not work. Vera absorbed another reason to talk shit, while Matt Hughes did what 99% of us knew was going to happen. It was exciting, and now I’m waiting for UFC 61!
LOL!! I thought you were joking

i tried watching the pay-per-view at hooters but i was unsuccessful. july 8 i'm going to make sure we get to hooters early. i had no idea how many UFC fans were in my area. i also have heard alot about a MMA facility opening up. if i didn't have asthma, i would at least give it a shot.
Vera trains BJJ under Lloyd Irvin. I don't know that much about Irvin but he is supposed to be pretty good at BJJ.
