Yeah I kind of figured that you looked at it wrong.
The final 4 should be pretty good no matter how it plays out. I wouldn't be surprised is their was an upset in this next round, but I imagine the final 4 will be the one you stated.
With Gomi, I think since he lost his last fight they want to give him a fight they consider "easier" before he has to defend his title in November. I don't consider Tyson Griffin an easy fight, but if it is indeed him, I think it will be a pretty good fight.
This is a what Sakakibara had to say at Complete Vale Tudo Access.................
Dream Stage Entertainment boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara has offered a bit of clarity to PRIDE's lightweight picture.
Sakakibara had previously stated, following June 4th's Bushido 11 card, that he may organize a lightweight contendership match at August 26th's Bushido 12 card, with the winner facing PRIDE Lightweight Champion Takanori Gomi in November for the championship. Sakakibara has now stated that in August, Gomi will meet a tough foreign fighter, "no different than usual", and that he will indeed defend his title in November.
Sakakibara also stated that the leading candidate for the title shot in November is still Marcus Aurelio, who defeated Gomi in April, even though Aurelio was defeated by Shooto Pacific Rim Welterweight Champion Mitsuhiro Ishida at Bushido 11 on June 4th. However, Sakakibara said that Aurelio's leading candidacy was tentative, and that the results of Bushido 12 would factor prominently into choosing Gomi's title contender for November 5th.
Semifinals and finals in November? Oooh, I'm such an idiot. I was drunk last night during my late night posts. That was one of them. I didn't even realize there'd still be 2 fights left after this. I just seen 4 pairings of WWGP labels on the card and assumed after that there's 2 left. As in 2 guys, not fights lol.
So the way it's stacked up the semis will be Hendo, Kang, Filho, and Gono. That's a bad ass semi final line-up right there.
It'd make more sense for Gomi to fight the guy that beat the guy who beat him lol. Stupid logic, but with Gomi being THE Bushido guy, that seems to be how they've been matching shit around him lately.
I like them all. I love how Bushido mixes it up. This fight has alot of fresh faces and shows that Pride is still spending the money to bring in the best young and veteran fights from around the world.
About the last card being better than this one. It's really tough to compare. The last card had more names, but this one has alot of the same names, and alot more youth. I like the addition of the young fighters. Jason Black has a much tougher opponent this time in Aoki. Melendez, Obiya, Curran, and Hioki get their shot on the big show. It will also have the return of Gomi. All in all it's tough to really compare, it's like apples and oranges IMO. I like both, but that's just me.
I believe the semi-finals and finals will be in November.
I forgot about the Tyson Griffin rumor. He may be the tough foreign fighter that Sakikabara mentioned. I could definitely see Gomi vs Griffin non title match, with Ishida vs Sakurai for #1 contender. Then the winner fights Gomi in November for the title. Sakikabara said Gomi wouldn't defend the title till November probably.
To be fair I want to see the entire event, that was never my point. If this wasn't on free TV, I probably wouldn't see it until the fights came online. Basically, this isn't worth a PPV purchase to me. Honestly though, I've only ever bought a few Bushido PPVs anyway.
What was better about the last Bushido PPV compared to this one? Is that a joke? Kang-Ninja I was dieing to see, same with Bustamante-Suloev. I was very much looking forward to Sakurai and Olaf even though I knew it was a mismatch. Same with Kawajiri and Krazy Horse. They had Villasenor's debut against a good fighter in Chonan. Filho was on there, Jason Black was on there, Aurelio's first fight since beating Gomi, Baroni was on the card against another striker. That card was awesome on paper and turned out probably less than what I expected. Still, I don't even think that card and this card is comparable. The last one blows this one out of the water in terms of having something for everyone.
By the way, do they do the semi-finals and finals on the same card for this WWGP? Or do we only get the semis?
And Tyson Griffin is supposed to be on this card too right? Maybe that's who Sakurai is fighting. Maybe Gomi and Ishida will be fighting each other.
no but Sakakibara said that Gomi will be fighting a tough foreign opponent. I'm guessing that Mach may be fighting Ishida since he is another LW who's supposed to be on the card.
To be fair I do want to watch the Melendez Vs Obiya fight & there are other fights on this card that interest me (Kang, Mousasi) , so I'll probably download it when I can.
They've stuck Butterbean on against Minowa, oh dear!!
On a sidenote have they said who Mach & Gomi are fighting yet?
Aoki is considered one of the best ground fighters in japan in his weight class, and has excellent BJJ. He's the current Shooto Middleweight Champ. He's a solid up and comer and will give Jason Black a real test.
Melendez/Obiya should also be a good match up. 2 young LW champs from 2 smaller orgs. Both come in undefeated. Melendez wins are a little more impressive, but Obiya is no slouch. Obiya trains with Gomi also, so he has that going for him.
I see your point about Hendo and Misaki 2. I don't care to see a rematch this soon, but the 1st fight wasn't that bad. I don't think it deserved an immediate rematch.
Hendo vs Kang would be nice, but I really like the potential of Kang vs Suloev.
I know you aren't a "UFC Nuthugger" Alvin. I was never implying Boone was either, he's a true MMA fan that supports all organizations, as do most of us. Now that they have added Minowa vs Butterbean to the card you guys have a reason to complain though. heh
Personally I couldn't give as rats ass about this card either. I'm not saying that it's bad, but there are no fights at the moment that makes me want to rush out & buy it (if I could!).
Henderson against Misaki? Didn't they just fight at B10?
Henderson Vs Kang & yes now you got me interested.
Also is anyone seriously going to tell me that they know who Aoki is (do I hear the sound of people checking out Sherdogs fight finder?!?!?)?
I'm not a "UFC nuthugger" in the slightest, but I can see past the fact that not everyone here has heard of half of these fighters & so would probably not get too excited about this round of B11.
Maybe they'll crank it up by having Mirko wear a "Antonio Anoki eats cooked fish" t-shirt which can spark a war of words which will lead Antonio out of retirement and guys will drone on and on about how he "has a chance" right up to the moment he gets his old ass handed to him in a UFCish geezer bashing extraviganza... naw, this card looks good as it is.

please explain what was so much better about the last Bushido card? And you must remember there are still 3 good fighters that have yet to have their opponents name. You are the only person I have seen on any forum that doesn't like this card. Besides the typical UFC Nuthuggers, which I don't think you are.
