JT money is no joke either. i say winner of this fight earns his way back into ufc, loser maybe earns his way to a strikeforce undercard, depending on the quality of their performance.

    One-Way
I hope he is on the 115 card. I always root for Dooms Day. It would be nice to see him back. Kind of a friend of a friend.

Ex-UFC fighter and Aggression MMA headliner Jason Day aiming for UFC 115 slot

by Dann Stupp on Jan 19, 2010 at 4:45 pm ET
For Canadian fighter Jason "Dooms" Day, the call was expected. But it wasn't any less stinging.

After winning 14 fights in a 16-fight span, signing with the UFC, and upsetting Alan Belcher at UFC 83, Day suffered TKO losses to Michael Bisping and Kendall Grove and then received his walking papers from the UFC.

Now, set to headline the Feb. 5 "Aggression MMA: Vengeance" card against Jesse Taylor, Day is hoping an impressive performance could earn him a new UFC contract and a spot on Vancouver's UFC 115 card.

"I guess I'm what you can call a free agent," Day today told MMAjunkie.com Radio (MMAjunkie.com Radio | MMAjunkie.com). "It's whoever can bring me the toughest opponents and best pay right now. But my goal is to get back in the big show."

Day (18-8 MMA, 1-2 UFC), who recently submitted Trevor Stewardson (5-1 at the time) in his first post-UFC bout, recently heard the organization plans to head to Vancouver in June. The Alberta native immediately let UFC matchmaker Joe Silva know of his interest in the card.

"I called Joe Silva and said I really want to be on this card," Day said. "He said, 'You just got to keep winning, and make it look good.'"

Day was obviously disappointed he was cut from the organization in the first place, but he also knows it's the nature of the business. He compared it to another uncomfortable aspect of life.

"It was kind of like when you break up with a girl," Day joked. "They tell you, 'It's not just you. You just need some wins. Come back after you get some victories. Get your mojo back.' ... I feel like I'm in a better place. It was good. There were no harsh words."

Also helping Day's case are that both of the fighters who defeated him recently posted impressive performances of their own; Bisping rebounded from a KO loss to Dan Henderson with an impressive TKO win over Denis Kang at UFC 105, and Grove pulled off a slick submission win over Jake Rosholt a week later at UFC 106. Additionally, the opponent he did beat Belcher has since emerged as a legit middleweight contender.

"I root for all those guys ... and it's good to see them do well," Day said. "Except for Bisping. It's hard to root for him since I feel like he's such an [expletive]. The guy's just an arrogant moron, so I rarely root for him. ... But Grove and [Belcher], they're cool guys."

In the meantime, Day hopes to fight a few times more in the next few months on the regional fight circuit. Up next is the fight with Taylor, a fellow ex-UFC fighter, which takes place at the Edmonton Expo Centre in Edmonton.

And though Day hopes a win there and few more victories will lead to a UFC return, he only wants the UFC contract if it's earned.

"I have to put on impressive performances," he said. "I don't want to be asking to return. I want them to want me back in the organization.

"I've had a taste of the cake. I've had a taste of the big show, and now I'm motivated to get back."
