....and that's exactly what both of them said in the countdown show.

I definitely believe it was Anderson's goal to submit him. It seems alot of poster's in this thread believe Soares and Anderson said it was they're game plan to go 4.5 rounds and then submit Sonnen. They never said that.

How about he was injured prior and sustained even more damage to his ribs after round 1 (makes sense right)?

You say, "Its this or that." I say, "Its this and that!"

Anyone that believes this bullshit should be banned from here.

I hear what you're saying but my original point was that maybe (MAYBE) Anderson was willing to risk a loss just so he could submit Sonnen. I'll have to watch their fight again but I don't think Silva was really at too much of a risk of being TKO/KO'd by Sonnen during all those 23 minutes of GnP.

In other words, if what Soares and/or Silva was true, then winning the match may not have been as important as submitting Sonnen. If Sonnen won by decision, then Silva could always rematch him (with the primary focus of just beating him any way possible). The only reason why I'm even giving this any thought is because Silva strikes me as being one of those absolute honor-crazy kind of guys (to try something like this) and doesn't seem to really care much what the fans think of him (i.e. he may not care so much about win streaks and fight records).

As for Okami vs. Silva (in another thread), forget that. Okami doesn't have anywhere near the KO power of Vitor so I wouldn't care to see them fight again. Silva vs. Sonnen 2 (and maybe vs. Wanderlei but not so much).

I can believe that Anderson wanted to submit him, but I wont believe that getting destroyed for 23 minutes was something he was planning since the beginning.

Oh wait, yea that doesnt make sense. If Silva was really injured before the fight, HE WOULD HAVE TOLD THE MEDIA before his fight so that Sonnen could exploit his injury Not very logical if you ask me.
Maybe Silva didn't want to pull out of a fight the day before and let down millions of fans. Also, Chael said that he believed Silva in the post fight interview, so if he believes him why wouldnt you? Its not as though Chael is looking out to protect silva's reputation...
