    This fight is not happening.

Coker: No Discussion of Miller-Melendez Title Fight
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said Monday that a rumored matchup between Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez and UFC contender Jim Miller is just that: a rumor.

“There’s going to be a lot of rumors flying back and forth, around fights and what’s going to happen, but they’re not based on fact,” Coker said during a “Savage Dog Show” interview. “They’re just based on rumors and people just trying to start a story or keep legs on the story. The truth is there has not been any dialogue on that.”

However, Coker does believe his champion will eventually meet opposition from the UFC.

“Who knows when those other fights will happen,” Coker said, “but I think that Gilbert will be able to hold his own and prove to the world that he is the number one fighter in the world.”

It feels a little funny saying it, but I think Miller is a little overrated by the more hardcore fans, and your outlining the difference in competition levels pretty much sums it up. Even though Miller is in the promotion with the highest concentration of top ranked LWs, he hasn't really fought anyone who was top 10 when they were top 10s. The guys he fought who went on to be top 10s, they beat him.

Personally I think Melendez is the better boxer, and grappling they are pretty close, Miller has better subs but if Aoki can't even get Melendez in a bad spot I don't think Miller will do much better.

i know i dont see what could be so great about a strikeforce ppv because i dont see that many amazing matches that could be put together that are so much better then the current cards they put together that would warrant them putting together a ppv.

its bad enough the wec is gone and the ufc did not live up to there promise of more free shows itd suck ass if the same happened to strikeforce.

They'll most likley put it on the Strikeforce PPV. With Zuffa powering the marketing, add in this fight on that card with Fedor/Hendo and it could pull some good numbers.

This fight makes alot of sense, hope it all goes down without issues.

i find this extremely odd, especially considering franklin mcneil suggested it on mma live. i don't know about you guys, but to me, the odds of zuffa brass even listening to what mcneil had to say, let alone considering it are pretty low.

edit: loretta cunt...always wanted to say that.

No matter what happens, I just want to see Gilbert placed against some top competition so he can back up all the bark. His performance against Kawajiri was impressive.

Miller VS Melendez would be a hell of a fight until the end. I would definitely love to see that fight and I would be going with Miller, of course.

Great fight if it happens. I would take Gil by dec. I would be rooting for Miller though.
