    Kimbo> Rampage
    Aldo beats Frankie....

Id like to see Edgar vs. Mendez first... Possibly a fight with Faber or Cruz down the line as well...

    He easily handles KZ....

Frankie Edgar says Jose Aldo comments helped him decide to drop to featherweight

Frankie Edgar says Jose Aldo comments helped him decide to drop to featherweight

"The fight at UFC 150 didn't go my way," said Edgar in comments made to "I'm not saying I'll never fight 155 ever again but this is something different. Dana wants me to go down and right now it's the right time to do it."

"I told myself I wouldn't make a decision until after the fight. I wanted to give myself a week to figure it out. I don't know if I would have felt differently if I did win the title back. You always have to give yourself some time because right after a fight emotions are always running high, win or lose.

It wasn't just White who influenced the decision, though. UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo played a small part, motivating Edgar further with some comments made to this week.

Said Aldo, "I'm hoping he does [drop to featherweight] to end this story. He's welcome here so that we can shut him off and he goes to the lightweight or bantamweight classes."

"That definitely helped me make my decision," Edgar responded. "I'm a competitive person and when someone talks like that it makes me want to get in there and see what '45 is all about."

While the belief from many has been that Edgar would benefit from the drop down because he wouldn't be the smallest fighter in the division, Edgar still doesn't think he'll be necessarily bigger than anyone at 145 lbs., either.

"For real I don't think I will be the bigger guy," he said. "I think these guys at '45 cut more weight than I will. I may not be dwarfed in size like some of the guys I've fought at lightweight but these '45 pounders present different challenges. By no means do I think that by going down to a different weight class I'm going to be successful right away. I think I'm still going to have solid opponents to fight."

Funny thing is, I bet he is still under-sized in a lot of his fights at 145, I really think he could make 135 no sweat

Best of luck, always loved to watch Frankie fight... him and Zombie for #1 contender would be sweet

Yeah, I dont think it goes down like that either. Frankie might lose the fight but I dont he gets brutalized worse than Faber.

Go ahead and give TKZ the shot after Koch, he's earned. Have Edgar fight Mendes for next dibs. I think that would work out chronologically.

I personally thought he definitely lost the first fight to Henderson, but definitely won the second fight. It's kind of a shame to see him leave the division on that kind of note. He certainly might come back though. Like others are saying, I bet him and KZ fight for #1 contender at the end of the year.

Not a HUGE fan of this by any means, Frankie is still easily a top3-2 LW depending on who you ask and could handle 90% of the LWs out there just fine.

Its not like Bendo is going to be the new Anderson or GSP holding the title for years to come. The LW title will change hands eventually, and if Edgar was still at LW winning, you know he'd get another shot.

Im not a big fan of him jumping over everyone at 145 with a single win either. If hes serious about staying at FW, then whats the rush? Let him get 2-3 solid wins under his belt.

(I like whoever said Edgar/Faber @ FW Thats been a dream matchup Ive wanted to see for a while now)

that's what i was thinking aswel. hopefully KZ recovers by end of this year so that they can make KZ vs. edgar for number one contender shot?
i wish edgar all the best for his new division.

He gives up a bit of the speed advantage he had over the bigger guys but loses the size/strength advantage he gave up at LW. I think he'll not give up to much of a speed advantage to anyone outside of Aldo. With his takedowns though he'll be able to use his wrestling alot better now and actually be able to keep guys down better.

Outside of Aldo he beats anyone at 145 and I think he gives him a tough match but I'd take Aldo to win.
