Until another legitimate threat comes along, yes.

Or maybe they'll just over look the win against an opponent with just 9 fights and focus on another "contender" as being "the one to beat Anderson Silva".......I wonder which it would be....
People who understand fighting will give Anderson credit for a great win over a great opponent--even more so if Weidman gets past Boetsch for his second top-5 win in six months.

But there are people who hate Anderson, and those people will probably dismiss the bout.

You can't please everyone, so the question is: do you want to try to please the people who know what they're talking about, or the people who are going to find a reason to hate you anyway?

Make Weidman vs Bisping the winner gets a title shot. Belcher vs Boetch would be for the next shot....
Bisping is two top wins behind Weidman [and Boetsch] at this point, and Belcher is three...there is no logic to making those matchups. Boetsch and Weidman for a title eliminator makes the best sense, if you're going to have Weidman jump through extra hoops. But a win for either Chris or Tim puts them three wins ahead of Bisping, and 4 ahead of Belcher.

Besides, bout agreements have already been signed for Weidman/Boetsch. dana would never have his fighters pull out of an already-scheduled fight, would he? I mean, not with a title-fight at stake!?!?

I believe Silva beats Weidman. Possibly in horrific fashion.

I also think DW declared Weidman the #1 contender after a solid win over a previous contender (before pulling out of the deciding fight with Sonnen due to injury) and another top 10 in Maia. Given the rest of the landscape that was a pretty reasonable call.

I'm still waiting to see the champion agree to defend his belt.

So then there is no #1 contender in the MW division?

Uhh Anderson has more title defenses than a shitload of people have fights.

When you have been here for 6 years, that sort of thing is going to happen.

It's also funny that nobody criticized Jon Jones for getting his title shot against Shogun (albeit it came about cause of Evan's injury) but prior to receiving his shot, Jones best wins came against Hamill, Vera, Matyushenko, and Bader. Of all those guys, Bader was the only Top 10 opponent (IMO he was borderline top 10 at best, seeing as how his best win was a decision against Lil Nog which shoulda gone the other way).

Weidman on the other hand has 2 legit top 10 wins in Maia and top 5 opponent in Munoz. He beat mid-tier fighters in Sakara and Lawlor. His resume is slightly better than Jones and has more justification in receiving a title shot, yet the posters on this forum are outraged at the thought of Weidman receiving a title shot against their "hero" Anderson Silva, but didnt seem to care when Jones got his.

Not that I am saying Jones didnt deserve his title shot. He was at the right place at the right time. A winning streak along with injuries to other contenders gave him the opportunity. Weidman also has the winning streak and the other contenders are a notch or 2 behind him, yet somehow he is not deserving.

Highlight section explains Jones shot, but Chis and Jones shots are two different things. Now if Jones wouldn't of got a shot due to the champ went up to test the waters at HW than they would be the same

I heard it pretty much the same as I did when he said no Brazilian can beat Jon Jones.

The only thing that can salvage this nonsense is if he's playing with the MMA community, by ducking Weidman he's actually helping hype him...but that's a level of sophistication that I fear is beyond Anderson and soares.

Don't let some fights against James Irvin, Griffin, or Bonnar fool you. There's a reason he doesn't want top contenders. When Shogun was champion, he said he'd love Silva to come up and fight him. Silva said that he's never moving up again, now for a Bonnar or Griffin he would.

Everybody gave Fedor shit for not fighting the best fighters, Silva's almost doing the same thing refusing to defend his title and wanting to fight a smaller champ in Gsp.
Actually when Fedor chose not to come to the UFC the best HW's weren't in the UFC. Completely different. At the end of Fedor's career it had reversed, but it was too late to make the move. He stayed out so he could face the best HW's.

I'll say this, if Anderson did want to raise fan awareness in regards to Weidman then he's a genius. Even if it's by accident the statements will make Weidman more well known and there by increasing ppv numbers when they eventually meet.

I don't believe the GSP fight will ever happen and he won't be fighting Jones so after Weidman destroys Boetsch I think they'll meet early to mid next year. Silva will probably beat an undeserving Bisping in the interim because as Sonnen/Jones illustrates, you do not have to be deserving, just be able to sell...sell...sell. Unfortunately Bisping does that well.
