you mean beating Carlos wasnt enough?

I want to see Nick vs. GSP(as long as GSP stays at WW)

Put him against someone like Alvez or Kampman... he should be heavily favored in those fight... dont put him up against a Fitch or Koscheck... he loses those.

I think Kos "plays the heel" better than Fitch and is arguably the more recognizable mainstream name and could hype a fight with Diaz to epic grudge match proportions, since nowadays it feels as though there is more interest in "selling the fight" than rankings....

I think Fitch would be the superior challenger, but I don't know if ZUFFA wants to risk the money of GSP/Diaz by having a stud grappler like Fitch derailing him, similar to when SF didn't matchup Fedor and Overeem off the bat or at least in the first round of the GP and then lost out on the incredible main event, due to Fedor dropping fights to Werdum and Bigfoot....

I think they book Fitch/Maia and Diaz/Kos and if Hendricks loses to Kampmann, they book Hendricks/Ellenberger. Once Condit loses to GSP, they book him against the winner of MacDonald/Penn.

I love the idea of Diaz against a wrestler for two reasons. First, the 170 division has some top wrestling talent, so it's a clear measuring stick. Second, Diaz's BJJ is beautiful and it kills me that he doesn't use it more. I would love to see him rolling, going for sweeps, creative subs, etc. against a wrestler who's a little less cautious and a little more aggressive.

I worry about Maia standing, but that would be a ridiculously awesome matchup. Maybe Maia needs one more first. I'd love to see him fight the Kampmann/Hendricks loser - someone who can batter you standing and still has an OK grappling game - to let the winner of that go against Diaz for #1 contender.

Yeah but Sherk was only like 3 for 30 or something like that on his takedowns in that fight lol and Diaz reversed one with an omoplata attempt like right away...and that was only a couple fights after his fight with Diego who took him down almost at will (but I think Diaz did a tad more damage in the fight, overall, and took Sanchez down a couple times as well). TBH I'm not sure how that was a UD for Sherk. I didn't think the shots he was landing had much on them at all. It was the exact type of fight Diaz wanted and Sherk got thwarted on most of his TD attempts and did no damage on the ground whatsoever. It was close but I thought Diaz took it.

He's had to have rolled with Shields so many times and he knows that is going to be a primary plan for certain people do beat him. Yeah, he hasn't defended takedowns from a top wrestler, though, in a long time.

The thing with Kos is he doesn't really set up his takedowns well...as strong of a wrestler as he is...and the kind of body shots Diaz can land (Which he didn't really possess near as much back in the day) can really take it out of his opponents. His work rate has also went up. I give Diaz a better chance against Fitch/Diaz in a 5 round fight, though. Fitch is such a sticky grappler though and has overall better BJJ though and is less likely to get subbed imo than Kos plus he will stick to grappling close to 100% whereas Kos would be dumb enough to stand with Diaz for a portion of the fight imo.

Well I would sure hope so. I dont give a shit about the weed he lost, I personally didnt find it that controversial, boring yes, but not the worst decision ever.

Afterall this titleshot BS lately I REALLY feel bad about wanting to see Edgar/Aldo lol, and Im a huge Frankie fan.

    Awsome.

Depending on the SF situation, a Nate Marquardt matchup probably carries some cache, especially considering Diaz held the SF title and both are relatively big names with alot of talent.

Maia would be an awesome matchup IMO, but I wonder if they'd be leaning towards Ellenberger since he's got some crazy stoppages on his record lately(sans Hieron who wasn't the best stylistic matchup for an exciting fight)....

Then again, I'm not too sure Diaz's camp would even take a fighter with an excellent wrestling base like a Fitch or Kos or Ellenberger because Diaz's TDD is an area I believe exposes him.
    I like all of these^^^.

Thats the good thing about Nick, hes a good match for pretty much everyone because hes so well rounded and hes got cardio for days.

Id give Nick a chance in all of those fights, with Fitch being the toughest, and Maia being the one Id like to see the most.

    Fitch/Diaz in a 5rounder sounds good though.

^Agree with the guys saying Diaz/Sanchez II would be great. Their first fight was so amazingly awesome...but I think Diego is going down to 155.
