UFC Quick Quote: Alexander Gustafsson has 'no doubt' he will defeat Gegard Mousasi - MMAmania.com

"Gegard is by far the most dangerous opponent so far, no question he's young, he's hungry and he has a lot of fight experience, so it's going to be interesting to see. I can't wait to fight in my hometown in front of my home audience against a top guy like that, so, I'm very happy...I will win the fight, no doubt, I will win the fight. And how I will win? It's not going to be a decision, that's for sure because two decisions like in a row now is too much. I want to have a finish, I want to go for a finish, I want a finish and I'm going to win the fight no doubt. But Gegard is the toughest opponent so far, so it's going to be a great fight and a great camp."

I want to see Hendo get his shot. but I doubt he will be able to get past Machida...

Machida and Evans could easily be #2 and #3 LHW, which I think they are... but let others get a shot at Jones before those rematches... They need to have impressive wins over impressive competition, to even get another crack at Jones... and for it to sell well. Jones has been so dominate.

I see Goose getting his shot after he beats Mousasi and Hendo loses to Machida...

Then DC will probably get his immediate shot or after 1 win, weather you agree with it or not. Dana seems real high on DC. So long as Cain is still HW champ and he beats Mir.

Then let Machida/Evans get their rematch with Jones... Either give them both a crack if they keep winning or even match them up together and the winner gets the rematch... That fight in itself is important, to see who the #2 LHW is imo.

For sure. The title shot is Hendo's if he wins.

If Hendo looks lackadaisical, there is a possibility someone else will get the nod.

Gus is definitely the number one contender right now, however, if Hendo were to knock Machida out, he would be neck to neck with Gus, IMO.

    Fuck yeah!

    Great matchup!

Both guys are young and have time to work their way to a title shot should they lose. Quit yer bitchin' and let the cards fall where they may!

I bet you that Mousasi will go up significantly in rankings simply because of being booked against Goose.

Gegard Mousasi Feels Fight with Alexander Gustafsson “Definitely For No. 1 Contender’s Spot” | MMAWeekly.com

“I wanted to face a top opponent. He’s the No. 1 contender so fighting him would get me in line for a title shot. That’s the guy I want to fight,” Mousasi told MMAWeekly.com on Sunday.

“It was him, (Lyoto) Machida or Shogun (Rua), and I mentioned them because I felt those were the names that fans would want to see, and they’re top contenders and obviously (Gustafsson) beat Shogun so he’s the number one, so I feel great fighting for this spot.”

The UFC hasn’t officially dubbed the fight as a No. 1 contender’s bout, but Mousasi knows that Gustafsson’s resume certainly reads like a fighter ready to compete for the belt. Add in Mousasi’s current win streak and he believes this has the makings of finding out who will next challenge champion Jon Jones in the Octagon.

“Gustafsson, he’s on a six fight winning streak, it’s hard to deny him a title shot. It’s definitely for number one contender’s spot, that’s the way I feel,” said Mousasi.

I'd say Goose is the #1 contender right now, if he beats Mousasi that doesn't change anything.

Conversely, and oddly enough, I have a bit of a hard time thinking Mousasi would deserve to be the #1 contender with a win over what I consider the current #1 contender...

I can appreciate a case being made for Hendo, but I think Goose deserves it more.

Glover's been on a tear for years, but not against top flight competition. How he fares against Rampage will tell me a lot about where he actually is in the landscape; but I'd expect 1 or 2 more wins against top competition to call him the #1 contender.

The rest of the cream of the crop are all a few wins away, imo.
