GSP started his MMA career in 2002 as opposed to Hughes who started in 1998 I believe. In a few years when GSP accumulates more fights, then you can compare the legacies. Hughes has a record of 45-6 and GSP is 14-2.

Dude...

With a thread title like that, you HAVE to at least include some key points to your argument. I think Hughes is indeed one of the greatest but he got his ass handed to him last time by GSP so you need to substantiate your strong statement.

(Especially being the fact that this thread is now in Noob Jack City where many people may not have seen much of Matt Hughes' older fights.)

Lol...

How can you start a thread state an opinion and use his legacy is better as an example to prove you argument. Lame thread....

Use examples, u stated you use only facts to prove your point and then didn't state any.

Talk about GSP's legacy when hes got at least half the fights Hughes has, also all the big fighters Hughes has wins over GSP does too lol.

Matt has a good chance at beating GSP. But that is not my point. This thread is really just venting my frustration. As I said before, I look at facts and not hype. And in my eyes Georges seems to be getting worse as a fighter. So when hype tells me GSP is at the top of his game, I'm annoyed.

If you all want examples look at Hughes vs Riggs and GSP vs Kos. Case in point finishing a Kimura in half guard. Now I know Riggs didn't make weight that fight so sure you can use that argument against me, but when you compare Riggs' submission ability to Kos'... There is NO fucking arguement, Kos sucks.

Come on dude, those two fights happened like two years apart. That's not really a valid comparison.

Hughes is a great fighter with a great legacy. This is kind of pointless to argue considering his record and number of title defenses. However he isn't getting any younger and he is still kind of one-dimensional.
The reason I see GSP winning this fight is because he's younger and more well rounded. If this fight goes to the ground I would still give Hughes the edge (but you never know with GSP), but if Hughes decides to stand and trade with GSP he's going to get his ass kicked.

Right now Hughes has an impressive legacy that will live on forever in MMA, but we have to realise that GSP may very well be his successor and this could be the passing of the torch.

In the end it's MMA 2007... and ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!

I think this thread is totally necessary, everybody is acting like GSP is gonna completely dominate Hughes and acting like Hughes doesn't stand a chance. Easily these two are the top welterwieghts in the world and currently Matt is the best ww of all time. I'm not gonna even try to argue who is better currently cuase nobody knows yet, but people that think GSP is gonna run all over Hughes again are crazy.

With all Hughes haters here, Jukon you get the brass balls award for starting this thread. Rep'd

GSP is in his prime -- Hughes is still solid, but he isn't nearly as dominant as he was in his prime.

doesn't anyone remember how Hughes first won the belt?
That fight w/ Carlos Newton, Hughes was choked out - Newton was knocked out when Hughes fell (not slammed).

Everyone says that Serra got a lucky KO against GSP but im not so sure. The one thing that makes Matt Hughes so great is his mental toughness. GSP lacks mental toughness but most times makes up with his incredable athletic ability. Hughes will win this fight and further his legacy.
