Matt Hughes at 155 Discussion. Just in general, what do you guys think? Honestly, I've never thought it was his age, so much as the sport itself, that caught up to Matt Hughes. I'm curious to see what you guys think about the guy at lightweight, whether you think it's possible, good idea/bad idea. Did he have problems making weight for his last fight? If only to make it a BJ Penn - Hughes trilogy. He'd come up short at that end too, like he did with St. Pierre, but still. I'd be fascinated as hell to see it wrap up in the lightweight division. |
There is no way that Hughes can cut to 155 in a healthy way. He would have to lose a ton of muscle mass. If he feels like he needs to change divisions, hes better off going up to the pretty weak MW division, where he actually would have a chance of beating some of the top guys like A Silva (because he has a good style match against him). Of course he would have no chance against guys he might not match up well against (like Hendo), but at this point hes just not going to be able to take all comers in any division that he can make weight in IMHO. |
I think the weight cut would be out of the question for him. |
i dont really see him making weight at 155, and at mw he would be a pretty small mw against some big mw who could easily fight at 205(silva,franklin,bisping,hendo) |

Hughes cuts down from 190 so he would have to make some huge changes in his life to make the weight. Iīm trying to loose some muscle myself, have tried a couple of times, but itīs very hard while having quite physical job and grappling few times a week. You can of cource just starve yourself and eat way too little but i donīt know if thatīs too wise or healthy. |
i think he'd have a lot more trouble at 155. he's not as fast as the lightweights in the UFC and and it wouldn't be a great move for him, assuming he even could. i think he'd do good at 185 though. i'd really like to see him move there. i think hendo and silva would both kill him, but he'd be good against most of the guys, |
yeah i dont think he could make that kinda cut,his choices are ww or mw that would be the two logical ones for him.i know he could fight at mw,but i dont think he would do to good against some of the bigger guys, which most of the mw's are |
Hughes won't be going to WEC. the guys got like 1-3 fights left in him, he's not gonna spend them in the WEC. and Silva's way too good off of his back for hughes to beat him. filho(or philo if you're sundance) is a different story, though. after the sonnen fight, i think i'd pick hughes against him. only thing i really care about hughes doing before he retires is another fight with BJ and a showdown with Serra and at this point i don't see hughes really doing any other fights other than those. |
I think its too little, too late for hughes. I mean the only reason it would be good for him is if he did cut weight and fought penn for the rubber match. Other than that hughes already said he only has a fight or 2 left in him. If he were to fight 4 to 6 more times, then I would say yes, cut weight. hughes would lose some of his frekish strength but I believe he would be in the top 3 lw with penn and sherk. But if he only has 1 or 2 fights left, then he should stay at ww and try to fight serra. |
