Since PRIDE got killed, UFC undoubtedly is the number 1 mma org on the planet. They produce great fights, great cards, and even though personally I feel Dana White ruins a lot of business with his mouth, himself and the Fertitta's have done a great job. However, mma is changing vastly. With CBS targeting the mainstream blood thirsty fans who do not know real mma, and Affliction partnering with Trump, the California promoter who launched Golden Boy, and most of the HW market, the UFC is feeling pressure. I think next week, Gomi possibly joining aside, the UFC will announce a deal with either FOX or ESPN-ABC. This is huge. MMA is becoming the number 1 sport in North America rapidly, although it's not even close yet, the strides it is making are tremendous.

View all of the mma gyms popping up all over the place. Four years from now, I wouldn't be shocked if it goes the way of boxing, with independent promoters. Ultimately the fighters make more money, and more dream matchups happen. It will be a positive thing for the sport. Regardless, those who think the UFC will own mma the way the NFL owns football, are sadly mistaken. This is not a team sport, and it's not the fake WWE, the two things Dana White copies his business model after. Time will tell. In the meantime, it's a great time to be an mma fan.

I hope it doesn't go the way of boxing. I'm a boxing fan, always have been, but it's corrupt in the worst way.

Kevin Rooney and Cus D'Amato trained Tyson about 10 minutes from my house, so i'd see Rooney out. He'd say he knew fighters that were better the most of the fighters in the top 10 heavyweight picture. But they would never get into a position to prove it because the promoters decided who got where and when they got it.

Please say no.

I agree, but the UFC has way more power then any boxing promoters had. And for the others saying paragraphs, I wasn't aware 6 lines was past your reading comprehension. I see MMA orgs popping up all over the the world in the next ten years, most will fail, only a few will survive.

We need those orgs, fighters need more options monopolies are never the answer, and I hope another U.S. promotion will someday rival the UFC hopefully 2 promotions.

I don't understand the point of this thread? This is beyond common knowledge to a site that gets this indepth about MMA on an hourly basis... The thread title is a bit missleading...

This is directed at everyone: This is a news site not an opinion or theoretical site... the purpose of this forum is to inform MMA fans about what is happening in the world of MMA. Editorial pieces are appreciated, but only if they are original or if they hold a different insight then what we are used to. Otherwise there is a chat room on the main page for random thoughts. Or just use the off-topic section.

My bad man, I didn't know. And I wouldn't say thi beyond common knowledge considering people don't even know that Wanderlei Silva myspace is fake in that other thread, yet nobody knows it, so I don't know how indepth in gets an hourly basis.

It depends on who's posting and when... this place is easily the best news site for MMA... If you break a story or find a rumor that hasn't been posted then by all means, please create a thread for us. Check the rules sticky on how to post rumors so the mods don't get pissed about people creating unsubstantiated rumors.
