Default A thought on Fedor and Randy...

You'll see why I put this in Noob Jack...mostly because I dont want another Fedor and Randy thread clogging up the main forums, and probably because this will turn into a huge bitch-fest directed at me. But hey, if it gets enough traffic, and people are reasonably debating it, feel free to move it.

Someones signature on the forums (and not to rag or whatever on whoever it is, I'm just using it as an example)...was these two and their Affliction photo shoot....with the caption underneath "Fight of the Century".

Why?

I mean..yes Fedor is one of, if not the best, pound for pound fighter in the world. And yes Randy is the UFC "chump-ion" (Nice play on words, eh?)...but I mean..really..why is there so much hype regarding this fight if it were to happen? I just dont understand it.

Is it because Fedors fighting? Or is it because Randy Couture has a chance at beating him?

Because the more and more I think about it, the more and more I honestly and truely believe, that this fight will be over before the halfway point of the first round.

Fedor lights him up standing up, Fedor puts a on clinic, on the ground.

In the UFC, yes sure, Randy is one of the better fighters. In the grand scheme of things? No. And that's what confuses me. It's not even like a GSP/Penn, Shogun/Wandy/Liddell/Rampage type superfight.

Fight simply goes like this....Fedor sets up in the middle...couple hard, clean, crisp shots to Randy. Randy panics, goes for his bullrush takedown. Fedor lets him take him down, but in the meantime either slaps on a guillotine, or grabs one of Randys arms during a punch and arm bars the hell out of him. OR Fedor sprawls, tosses Randy down, and brings the rain in a brutal GNP TKO

Its one of the greatest fighters in the world, beating on a 40+ year old man, who accomplished much, but has a luckluster record, and who is someone I wouldnt put in the top 15-20 p4p fighters in the world.

SO it's late, Im tired, and this is how I see it.

Neg me, flame me, do whatever...I'm just curious...why does everyone have such a boner for this fight that probably won't happen? I personally just can't see why.

I agree and disagree. I'm not saying I would choose Randy if I had to bet money on it, but I do think he would stand a much better fight than you give him credit for. That being said I do sort of see what you're saying. I do agree "fight of the century" is a bit much, as there is a decent chance Fedor would dispatch him quickly. There is also a decent chance Randy would bring a good gameplan and surprise Fedor and throw him off his game. I really think Randy should have fought Nog and maybe even one more person. If he looked really impressive in those fights the hype for him and Fedor would be brutal.

I became much less of a fan of Couture after his "retirement" and his unwillingness to consider other fights. But, aside from that, I'm pretty impressed by the late Randy and his ability to create game plans for fights. I'm not saying he would beat Fedor, but I think Couture is the smartest he's ever been inside the cage and as a corner man.
