Default Why isnt UFC 91 better??

I know everyone is going to think Im crazy for asking why isnt UFC 91 crazy. I think the UFC has over estimated the selling power of Brock vs Randy. Dana White has said this will be the biggest UFC event ever with gate and pay per view buys. White also said it would draw over a million ppv buys. If im not mistaken Tito vs Chuck 2 got 750,000 buys and had a killer card. I just dont see UFC 91 doing that. Here is the main card

* Champ Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar (for UFC heavyweight title)
* Kenny Florian vs. Joe Stevenson
* Nick Catone vs. Amir Sadollah
* Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Josh Hendricks
* Demian Maia vs. Nate Quarry

The Florian vs Stevenson fight should be good but wont draw much interest. The same goes for Quarry vs Maia. I really think the UFC is going to fall short on there numbers. If they wanted 800,000 buys there should have put Rampage vs Wanderlei Silva as the co-main event. UFC 92 would still have been strong even without Wandy and Rampage. My point is I just dont see UFC 91 getting a million ppv buys with the card they have put together. I guess only time will tell.

Thoughts???

i dont think they will get the numbers they estimated but i bet it will be the second biggest buyrate of the year thus far.

florian-stevenson will be good setting up a possible penn- florian fight
I would like to see what sadollah is actually capable of and gonzaga needs to be back on the winning track. Id like to see quarry-maia as well as maia impressed me in his last two fights and quarry is coming off the imbarrasing fight with starnes.

Two Reasons:

1. UFC will put on subpar cards if the main event will draw in tons (which, as it was said, they won't make as much as they think they are going to make).

2. UFC 91 is followed up by UFC 92-94, all of which have good cards in the making. It is only natural that this card be less than spectacular. I wouldn't be shocked if UFC 92 does better PPV sales than UFC 91.

I think another reason is that it simply doesn't have to be a better card is...

Couture/Lesnar sells the card, and guarantees water cooler talk for the next while.

While it may lack star power, If you want to see fights finished, this looks like a card that's going to guarantee that.

My best friend summed it up best, we're buying 91 simply for the main event, and buying 92 because we're fans off MMA and they're giving us possibly one of the greatest cards ever.

In a way I feel like Dana is stacking 92 to pay us back for 91's lackluster undercard, but seriously, it still is a helluva better show than 90 was. I feel that they should've merged Leban/Bisping and Cote/Silva because neither had STELLAR bouts all in all. I think 92 all the way through to 94 will be amazing.

Maybe white thinks the wwe fans will buy it. He could of put bigger fights but whats the point if there gonna buy it just for the main event.

from all of the wwe fans I've known, me included, brock isn't that big of a draw to them, at least anymore.

He's not Rock or Angle or somebody who really made his mark and developed his fanbase.

He was thrusted on the fanbase, got over due to his talent and took the money and ran, kinda jilting the fans. I think he has that mainstream name draw, similar to Kimbo or even Tito(a NAME that mainstream fans recognize if they're in the bar) but the pro wrestling fans I know are way past Brock Lesnar and aren't interested in what he's doing.

I'm interested in the Maia/Quarry fight, the rest is pretty pedestrian in my opinion.

I've learned not to expect too much from the UFC lately.

well, i can't wait to see maia and sodollah in action, the hendricks/gonzaga match will be one to watch, the stevie/florian will be a textbook mma war, and come on, i can't wait to see if randy pulls if off like everyone else.

all in all, i think this is a pretty good card, star power or not. i think it's more of an mma fan card than a sportsbar card, save for the main event. and i'm okay with that.

Looks to be a pretty solid card to me - looking forward to watching it tomorrow night (I can't get it live in the Uk)
