| Big Nog had Staph Infection? Dana White Interview: Audio of UFC President Breaking Down UFC 92 | Five Ounces of Pain
I can't listen to the interview cause I'm at work without sound on my computer, but the summary explaining the interview says this: Quote: |
UFC President Dana White was a special guest on Monday’s edition of “The Carmichael Dave” show on Sports 1140 AM KHTK in Sacramento and offered his breakdown of UFC 92. During the course of the interview, White revealed that Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira suffered from staph infection leading up to his interim UFC heavyweight title defense vs. Frank Mir.
| Can someone tell me if Dana goes into more detail about this?
I'm not trying to find a way to discredit Mir's performance, that was an awesome fight for him, but I would like to know if Nogueira really had a staph infection that could have screwed up his traning and/or actual fight performance.

Yeah, around 9:40 in the interview, Dana says Nog just gotten over a staph infection and "had some other problems".

I love how there is always a fallback excuse for people to use. Nog had steph, Rampage was crazy, Couture was old and had a year lay off.

^^ Dana White wouldn't be defending Nog for any reason... and it isn't like Nog, OR his camp, made the excuse. There is no fall back excuse.
Why would Dana try to defend Nog? Mir is the more marketable champion because he is American. Mir vs. Brock II would sell better than Nog vs. Brock as well. Add the fact that Dana can say Mir did what Fedor couldn't do in 20 minutes.... twice. Dana has no reason to defend Nogueira. Quote:

Any who, Dana also said that the wars Nog was in during PRIDE has really taken a toll on his body. And I agree. I think more than anything, like Wandy and Hughes, his body is breaking down from so much physical strain. Too many wars.
Additionally, Mir is better than everyone THINKS he is. He was just breaking into the top ten going into this fight, regardless of what others believe. Did he catch Nog at a bad time? Probably.... but that is part of the game.

I agree though...Dana is just trying to protect his investment since he fails time and time again to get Fedor...he NEEDS Nog

Fighters train for about 3 months leading up to a fight like this. Many times they go through all types of stuff during that time just like the rest of us. I'm sure Mir had some things happen too, but he won, so no one will mention it.
I don't buy in to the fact that this changed the outcome of the fight. All fighters deal with this kind of thing.

| I agree. It's not necessarily always used as a fallback excuse and I don't think that is what this is, but when a big name loses there is ALWAYS something. It happens every time. Maybe the post interview the fighter doesn't say anything or make any excuses but within the week there will always be something said that, whether it was meant to or not, takes away from the winning fighter's win. It's ridiculous. Quote:

Mir and Nog can not be put on the same level. Nogs record is faaaaaaaaaaaaar more impresive. Just think what would happen if Nog was in his prime! I dont like Lesnar but there is nothing i want to see more than Mir getting killed by Lesnar. Yes killed. What a douche!
I still think that was an early stoppage. Nogs head was still up. And we have all seen him take beatings like that and still recover. Check his Pride fights. They gave Couture time to recover before they ended the fight. Why didnt Nog get the same treatment!?! Esspecialy when he is famouse for recovering!? Bullshit. Nog should leave the UFC. Think about it. Fedor did not KO Nog. Nobody in Pride did. UFC just wanted to prove their fighter against pride fighters(Fedor). Just wait for Dana to start his "Mir is the best" campaine. If you think otherwise then ur just a bunch of dummies.
And yes i am a Fedor groupie. Blow me
