Will the UFC prevent megafights with Silva since he is retiring?
Let me clarify. Anderson Silva, for a champion, has not proven to be a very big draw. Now with only having a fights left, do you think the UFC will avoid making some mega fights in order to prevent him from beating their big draws then retiring? Fighters like Rampage, Forrest, Rashad, etc...
Since he announced that he would retire at the end of his contract he has been scheduled to face Patrick Cote and Thales Leites. Even though he came away from the Cote fight pretty well unscathed and stated he wanted to fight immediately to make up for his performance, they gave him Thales Leites. A good fighter, but not a guy who is likely to become a big star in the UFC nor is it the kind mega fight most fans were hoping for. Knowing the UFC's tendancy to undercard fighters who are on their way out or not in good standing, I could see them feed him more fighters like Leites who are good fighters, but not huge draws and won't have much of a downside to them losing. With that said I could still see him fighting Chuck because Chuck doesn't have that much time left and his days as a title contender may be numbered at LHW. But guys like Forrest or Rampage who are huge draws in the LHW division and would be great fights; I could see them avoiding as having Griffin end up on the wrong side of a highlight reel KO then Silva walk away would do nothing but hurt Griffin's marketability
