Well I look back at Pride for this answer. Most fans including my self dont want to see two guys lay on each other for 15minutes and do nothing, even improving there postion and losing it over and over again gets a little annoying. I bring up Pride because the Yellow card, and also the Refs would stand the fight up when neither oppent are winning the chess battle. Yellow card would make both fighters have to push the pace or risk losing 10% of the purse. I went and saw UFC 83 in Montreal, I paid 250$ a ticket and never booed once but understood when the people around me paid the same and the fighters never did anything ( Kalib Starnes vs Nate Quarry comes to mind) In pride Kalib would of got a yellow card and he'd have to push the pace. The match the yellow card worked the best in is Rampage vs Randleman both fighters got a yellow card which lead Rampage to Knock out because he had to put the pressure on the Randleman.

MMA's existed like a grand total of 20-25 years.

Boxing is like 200.

Give it time.

who cares... worry about yourself. why do you care so much what other people do? i bet youre the first one in line for the protests for proposition 8. stop worrying about other people so much... fight your own fight, life is hard as it is. MMA doesn't need an educated fan, it needs A fan.

So many comments for one sentence.

First you rip people for what they like because you like something different. I like the brawls and blood and I like the technical game. Problem is, sometimes the technical game is someone "technically" trying to run the clock out. If you aren't doing something on the ground, then that's why you get boo'ed and that's why you get stood up. People now CHEER when an armbar attempt is made, back in the day, they would boo that because they had no idea what was going on.

Fans ARE smarter.

I'm amazed that you consider yourself some kind of "elite" because you prefer the ground game. It's a matter of opinion not education.

UFC themselves throw it in your face every other sentence that Forrest vs. Bonner 1 is the greatest of all time and that was a brawl.

Bottom line is, if somebody pays the amount of money it costs for a UFC ticket, they just bought the right to boo and cheer as they feel. I find the boo's much more soothing than the singing that you find in the UK.

Also, speaking of educated, an educated person does not type in all caps. Mental Midgets and drama queens do that.

How long before you educate yourself to the technical side of the english language? THEM SELFS? LOL. Who are them "selfs"? I never met a self. Is it a type of elf? No no no, don't explain, I understand you really meant themselves.

I don't care about winning a spelling bee, however, when you throw around the word "educated" in a sentence, you should try to be a little more educated.

Sorry to sound so harsh but seriously, let people like what they like and you like what you like.

wow did you really just say that? you and the "just bleed" guy must hangout together on the weekends! do you want to take a guess as to why they call it MIXED martial arts?If you cant appreciate all that goes into the performance then you shouldnt even be watching. just my 2 cents.

how many football fans can explain to you the 46 defense? you dont need to know every fact, or every technical aspect of the sport to enjoy it.

i think the majority of UFC fans are slowly but surely getting educated. i myself a few years ago didnt appreciate the wars that go on on the ground, or the clinch game that can be devastating. i watched a Strikeforce event the other night and they kinda did this thing where they explained a few things about the sport, which i thought was gay as hell, but it would help the uneducated fans figure out what is actually happening at times. but i think if your buying PPV's you should atleast know what the hell your watching.

Japanese fans aren't any different, they just have a different expectation than Western fans.

This sport is no different than Nascar. It has rabid, know-it-all fans that practice the sport in their own garages. Know all the names, all the up and comers. Know all the inside news.

And them there is the majority......

and they only tune in to watch the wrecks.
