For some reason while looking at Ramma and Roaddawg argument in "General" I got the idea to start a Debate Competition that will pit anyone who wants to participate against each other in todays current MMA topics. The debate will be judged by the peers of this website by simply taking votes on who you think won. I thought this would be cool (Kind of Corny) but cool to do as some type of competition here on the forums.

Now I will list some topics and if you want to participate just state whether you agree/disagree on each topic and I will make the matchups based on that.

I say again this is just for the making of the matchups, do not put your whole statements here just short answers (Yes/No)

Cool idea, I'll give a solid description of my views on each...

1. Fedor's Decision to sign with Strikeforce. Good/Bad
GOOD in the short term, BAD in the long term IMO. The massive buzz and explosion amoung MMA fans when this happened was massive and showed us that Strikeforce was really trying to compete on the highest level. Fedor is the greatest fighter in MMA, it's like having Ali on your roster and that can't be bad right???? But consider, right now, they're feeding Rogers to him, who has less than a puncher's chance given his lack of technique and honestly, they're ruining a longterm talent with potential, for short term buzz. After that, the potential of fights in the US against Werdum and Overeem really only have cache to those hardcore fans who know them and believe they've got a shot, can anyone honestly say that any non-hardcore fan in the US knows who Alistair Overeem is??? And that's even if he can pass a piss test! There's little chance any casual fan cares to see Werdum/Fedor, so it's not really doing anything to spike Strikeforce's value, aside for those who'll follow Fedor to the end of the earth.... Other than that, you've got a Japan bout with Barnett, that doesn nothing for Strikeforce, unless they want in on it, and that means running a card in the States that'll draw ZERO. Then who? Monson? Roger Gracie and Lashley are nowhere near ready for Fedor and meanwhile everybody psssssssst while all this happened, Brock Lesnar was training....getting BETTER. If Strikeforce doesn't bankrupt by contract's end, Fedor will still eventually have to pay the piper that is the UFC, because I don't see Brock going anywhere anytime soon. And it'd probably have been wiser to fight him now, while he's an angry tiger, before he becomes a seasoned dragon(Perfect Weapon reference WUT!). Longstory short, it's nice to see Fedor fighting soon and possibly often, but to be the best, I think he has to test the UFC's waters. Like I've said before, if the greatest pro wrestler or basketball player never performed or played for WWF/E or the NBA, they'd be doing the fans and themselves a disservice, because they'd never be able to reach the height of success those organizations would provide.

2. 5RD non title fights. Good/Bad
GOOD for main events and possibly good for number 1 contender bouts, but nothing that should become a regular thing, it should be a special attraction.

3. Who is p4p best? Fedor/Silva
Fedor's never lost, Silva has. Right now, they're both flawlessly GREAT, but I'd have to say Fedor because he's literally been untouchable for longer, even if he's been underground these past few years. I don't feel Cote, Lutter and Leites is a strong enough argument to sway me.....YET.

4. Rampage taking movie role? Good/Bad
BAD right now, considering TUF starts next week and the Memphis PPV was planned as the blowoff, but GOOD long term, because the mainstream publicity and attention that Rampage will bring to the UFC and that eventual bout, is MASSIVE and could garner as much press in the mainstream as 100 if marketed right.

5. Kimbo Slice in the UFC. Succeed/Fail
Fail as a contender but potentially succeed down the line, if committed in terms of being considered a legitimate UFC fighter and trying his damnedest. I can seriously see some co-main events and FIGHT NIGHT bouts that draw good numbers on this guy's name, so I won't count him out yet. He's not great, but what he is, can be used to everybody's advantage....

6. Who Should Hendo fight next? Silva/Marquardt
Silva. Hendo's beaten Franklin(former #1), run through Palhares and destroyed Bisping, and hasn't had a night off in YEARS, prior to his loss to Anderson, he had RAMPAGE!!! Meanwhile Nate's defeated Gouvia and Maia and Kampmann, while losing to Leites in questionable fashion. Of those bouts, Hendo's looked better and hungerier and more dangerous, not to mention that the quality of opposition is much higher for Hendo, therefore IMO, he's deserving of the shot. Add to that that Hendo's 38 and getting a tad long in the teeth to be waiting for a shot, while Nate's younger and has had the most nearest loss.

7. Arlovski? Done or Still Gas in The Tank
Arlovski still has a lotta gas left in the tank and simply needs to recommit and re-center himself on MMA. If he's focused and his mind is totally in the fight game, I see him as one of the VERY TOP TIER HWs on the entire planet. Maybe he can't beat Fedor or Brock or Nog, but I'll take a focused and willing Arlovski over Mir, Cain, Carwin and Kongo any day of the week. If he genuinely attempts a comeback and doesn't piss around with boxing etc and really committs, I see him being a force to reckon with. With his lowered rate given his recent losses, I could see him having some VERY big fights in the UFC in the not too distant future.

8. Does Brett Rogers really have a chance? Yes/No
NOPE, it's a shame, because he has potential, but needs to be brought along slowly and allow him to develop and evolve. This is too soon and Arlovski was a bad night for Andrei more than anything.

9. Is Diego Sanchez a deserving #1 contender? Yes/no
I'm mixed, for he's a total washout from the WW division, but he's got legit talent. He's beaten the always game Joe Daddy and Clay, but they're both SERIOUSLY one dimensional and Sanchez didn't finish either and Clay fared fairly well, so I don't really see him being ready for BJ quite yet. IMO, I'd prefer seeing the winner of Gray/Edgar get the shot ahead of Diego, while Sanchez fights Kenny to earn the shot.


10. Is Mousasi the future of the LHW div.? Yes/No
Outside of the UFC. DEFINATELY. Within, I think Machida, Page and Shogun give him a run, but I honestly think that he's seriously in the mix. My sole issue right now with him, is quality of opposition, for after Babalu, I don't see many gamebreakers he'll have to face for quite a while. UFC is where he should be......

11. What will sell more? UFC 103/Mayweather vs. Marquez
103. I really agree with what Dana's said on the issue and IMO, boxing is DONE. It's all greed and ZERO product. The main events are fine and stunningly hyped, but there's no substance and the mainstream has totally turned its back in favour of MMA.

12. What is TUF to MMA? Good/Bad
It's a great way to spend a Wednesday night, since nothing's on. I'd rather see a weekly FIGHT NIGHT with up and comers IMO tho....

13. Who Wins in a rematch? Mir/Noguiera
Nog, NOg, NOG!!!!! I've officially nicknamed Mir "FLUKE", for that's all he is. After beating Kongo, he'll have nowhere to go, but WAY down. He's not at that level and if Nog was as hurt as it appears, Nog'll fuck him up come rematch.

14. Should Rampage be replaced in the scheduled fight with Rashad Evans? Yes/No
Yup. I say give Rashad a challenging challenger, but IMO, beating Wandy and Jardine is more than enough to get Machida, while we haven't seen Rashad since his nap. Evans needs to work his way back up the ladder and seriously, I consider him a long way down the ladder from Rampage. This would be a lovely way to introduce LIL NOG, or maybe Tito II??? Randy would be sweet as well.

15. Is Thiago Silva overrated? Yes/No
YES. He's talented, but I think that Jardine, Vera, Hamill level is as high as he'll get. I don't think he'll beat a top ten LHW, unless it's Forrest and even still, I don't think he has the technique.

16. Andeson Silva ducking Hendo? Yes/No
I doubt it, but I do think that Hendo's a HUGE jump from Cote, Leites and a not too game Forrest. Combine that with the MASSACRE that was the Bisping bout and I doubt anybody, even Anderson wants to fight Hendo. Add to the equation that Anderson only wants a few more fights, why risk it against Hendo, when he could fight Randy, Mir and by then, Hendo'll either have lost or cooled off a tad.

17. Should knees to the head of a grounded opponent be added to the UFC's rules. Yes/No
Possibly. It'd make things more interesting and exciting on the ground and wouldn't allow for the bottom fighter to hold on for a standup, but the health of the fighters should be considered. I'd love to see it, but it always makes me cringe a little. In terms of mainstream acceptance, I think they should probably pass on the knees, to keep from losing the casual viewer in hopes of expansion.

18. Women's MMA, 3 min rounds or 5? 3/5
Who cares.

19. Is the UFC screwing Rich Franklin? Yes/No
NO! He barely beat a dogged and exhausted Wandy and lost to Hendo. He's nowhere near the top at 185 or 205 and is living off his past, when the competition at MW was SLIM at best. Franklin is a legend in his own time, his skillset is the same, while his competition has EXPANDED massively. He's a massive name and draw, but he's not a force to be reckoned with. He'll never beat a top 10 fighter in either division, so why bother. He's a name.

20. Is Co-Promotion good for MMA? Yes/No
I'd prefer one MMA promotion with all fighters in it, where they were treated fairly and we got fights once a week. Since that can't happen, I guess we'll wait and see how Strikeforce and M1 works out, my guess is that I'm not holding my breath......

I dont know, if it will be respectfull debates its OK, but its possible that some people will try "too hard" to convince the other forum members and eventually insults are going to begin.

Anyway lets try it, we will see how it goes.

I will talk about Rogers and I think that in an MMA fight all is possible, but I think its very unlikely that he will win. Fedor has more experience, for me Fedor is better in every aspect, even in the striking. Rogers is also underestimating Fedor, big mistake IMO.
I have seen many fights of Brett I simply cant find a way he will beat Fedor, Fedor wont make the mistakes Arlovksy did, if fedor takes him down he wont let him stand up again.

Brett maybe has the advantage of reach, but against fedor that is not a so important factor.

Fedor has fought against many of top strikers (Mirko, Schilt, Arlovksy, Sylvia, Goodridge), so he definitely wont be intimidated by Brett.

I mean, when you involve Fedor, you're going to get bipolar responses, so shitty idiots are expected. I also enjoy how close Pashak and I's responses were....rep'd if I could brudda.

Well we can just see how it goes. I will state the rules when the matchups are made but it will primarily be that voting should be primarily who made the better case and such, not on who's trying to sound witty and be overly ostentacious (<<<Good example) to make themselves sound above everyone else by using words that are not used in everyday talk.

I think it's a good idea... but as mentioned I think insults will start being hurled if theres not a way to limit, not necessarily who, but rather an 'at the point of' in a debate.
