Kodokan is the most popular form of Judo. I trained in Russian Judo which is really influenced from Sambo which is what Karo and Fedor use in MMA.

But if you want the purest form of Judo, then Kano Jigoro's Kodokan Judo is it.

Karo grew up with the Hayastan Grappling System, but as you said, it's basically Russian Judo with the Sambo influence.

As for your question, somewhat confusing, but whatever ROckx said^

Yes sambo took pieces of Judo...but then Sambo also influenced Judo...
For example the Flying Armbar is a Sambo technique, but was added to Judo as a Flying juji gatame I believe.

My advise would be to sit in on a class, either as a spectator or participant (Most clubs will let you try a class or two before deciding). That way you can get a feel if it was you are looking for or not. A lot of it will depend on the Sensei. My club is a member of Judo BC which is under the National umbrella of Judo Canada which adheres to the olympic rules of Judo for competition. Most clubs you can expect a combination of practical, competitive practice along with traditional techniques including ground work.
