| Kid Sues School for "MMA injury... Quote:
A student at Missouri's Blue Springs High School is suing the school district after he was injured in what is being described as "a mixed martial arts-style fight" which an assistant wrestling coach cheered on.
The Kansas City Star reports that Samuel Gomez, a junior who was on the Blue Springs the wrestling team, claims that when a wrestling practice was canceled last October, wrestlers stuck around the gymnasium and had an MMA-style fight that one student videotaped and that assistant wrestling coach James Williamson watched and cheered on.
Gomez claims that he broke two teeth and had another tooth knocked out in the fight, and that his injuries required a rod to be placed in his mouth two root canals.
Gomez's lawyer told the Kansas City Star, "The school essentially refused to take this matter seriously, even when the school was provided that video. There was plenty of opportunity for the school to accept responsibility."
Although this is being described as an MMA fight, it's important to note that in reality, this wasn't an MMA fight at all: MMA fights are done under a referee's supervision, in a confined space, and with participants required to wear mouthguards. This was just two kids brawling in a gym. If a coachegged them on, he has no business coaching youth sports.

| There is a video of it if you click on the link, as of this post. This brings a question up though....Think instances like these will be more of an issue with the growth of MMA?

Reminds me of early Kimbo fights.....or bumfights. Stupidest coach ever. At least leave the gym.....he is so fired for negligence and could even face jail time.

These sure don't look like kids. They look like full grown or mostly full grown guys (perhaps some girls were there I didn't see any) who believe it or not should damn well be responsible for their own actions. Sure didn't look to me (from the vid) that either of them was physically forced to fight and I am guessing they chose to fight. My point is you make your own bed...sleep in it.
The coach, I agree, will likely be fired if he's lucky, if not perhaps some jail time.
If this is a true story about Gomez suing his school unfortunatly I can see it going through and him winning. Reminds me of the Darwin awards.

HOSS-Bork, you should spend more time brushing up on your MMA history, and less time complementing guys on how young their penises taste.

any time anyone gets into a fight like this where it's on the news it's going to be described as "MMA style" or they were imitating "Ultimate Fighting". This is an insult to people who train MMA

I'm just glad that dana's criticism of the Simpson's episode is right, and MMA isn't in schoolyards.

People said the same thing about WWF back in the mid 90's. Kids were immitating the moves and having backyard wrestling. Thats what kids do, its up to the parents to make sure they don't do this dumb shit. That coach will never work at a school again.

Disgraceful...........He participated so he has no right to sue IMO.
