| GSP vs. Shields (Don't know how reilable this info is)
Source: http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/?go=...1554876&page=1
The guy on the forums there seems to be pretty reliable but I put it in noob jack just in case: Quote:
Just got off the phone with Shields!!!!
GREAT NEWS for all MMA fans and Shields haters a like........
You may finally get your answer to Who would win? GSP or Shields (GSP's "dream fight")
..........
Jake only has 1-2 more fights on his contract (he has the option to opt out of the Strikeforce contract after his next fight if he vacates the title) and was contacted tonight by Joe Silva and Dana White about if he would be willing to Coach TUF season 12 opposite GSP. Where they could promote a World Champ vs World Champ fight at the end of the TUF 12 season.
Jake said they have not discussed specifics yet but the UFC brass wanted to know if it would be something that could actually be worked out. And if Jake could and would be willing.
And Jake let them know that it is something he would be able to do and that he is "very interested" if a deal can be reached.
..................
AWESOME POTENTIAL NEWS and its about time Jake got a chance to shut all of the Shields haters up........Or get shut the fuck up himself!!!!
Either way, this is something he will, "move heaven and earth to get this lined up, if thats the direction the UFC is willing to take." He also told me that GSP is the one asking for this.
FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WAR SHIELDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll take it for what it is now, a rumor. But, it would be a killer fight to see.

I don't see how shields can Finish this fight.
Here's where I think they rank in terms of skills:
Stand up- GSP by a landslide
Take-down defence- GSP
Take-downs-GSP
Ground and pound-GSP
Game-plan-GSP
Submissions-Shields.
Now I think Shields has an edge in Submissions. I do not believe he can submit GSP without badly softening GSP up first. Now seeings that shields couldn't soften up stool with laxative he has no chance and beating down gsp and subbing him.

Champion vs. Champion......
More crap. Shields is fighting 185 where he is champ and vacated the championship at170.
GSP is champ at 170 and thinking of going to 185.
So, in either weight class, it's not really champ vs. champ.
Intriguing matchup nonetheless.
From JakeShields.com Quote:
At UFC 105
Is your jiu-jitsu better than Jake Shields’?
GSP: “I don’t think so and I’m totally honest, if you put me in a grappling match with Jake Shields on the ground, he would probably beat me. If you put me in a mixed martial arts fight with Jake Shields, I’m confident I would beat him, but there is only one way to find out.”

I would like to see Griffin and Ortiz do the upcoming Ultimate Fighter and then do a fight after.
Just a side question: Do the coaches sign a contract saying they will fight after, or is it just a given? I'm curious because of this whole rampage ordeal this season. You would assume that Dana White would make sure that it's a signed and a done deal. Just curious.

As if Shields' ego wasn't big enough.

That is called "Contract Tampering" and if true would get the UFC a nice cease and desist letter followed by a law suit if Shields does jump ship.

I'm a big fan of Jake Shields, but if they put him automatically as a "coach" on TUF, most casual fans are gonna respond with a "WHO THE FUCK IS THAT GUY?" mentality. I say, if/when he ever does make the jump, he should take on Kos/Fitch or Alves and if he wins, then have him fight GSP, but first INTRODUCE him to the casual UFC audience, before spending a PPV that SHOULD be a massively hyped showdown.
If Shields cares to be dominant, he should stay at WW, which common sense would dictate, he should probably go to where the pond is deepest in the UFC. Unfortunately, GSP would decommission any potential dominance Shields could experience, much like Fitch or Alves, for his skill is just so much more stunning.
So NATURALLY, given his dominance and potential WW untouchability, let's give him DAN HARDY! The Gillberg of the WW division.
