Mr_MMA will become famous soon enough

Default Catch weight bouts/More weight divisions

The UFC has five weight classes, which is brilliant in the sense that it is easy to keep track of divisional champions. This is in stark contrast to boxing where there are multiple weight classes and at times who really is the champ can be confusing (not for me as I am a geek).

My point is that there should be more catchweight fights in the UFC. I would suggest more wieght classess but have a feeling that many MMA purists would be against the idea as we would have many more champions and it could dilute the significance of holding a UFC strap. Catchweight bouts would provide more interesting match ups and, in my humble opinion, give certain fighters more purpose in thier careers.

There are numerous examples of fighters who work their way up the ladder, get a shot at the title and find themselves coming up short, in many cases, very short against the current reigning champion. Fitch, Florian, Sanchez, Franklin are some that spring to mind straight away. My issues is that these guys then go back down the ladder, only to work their way up it and find themselves going up against the same guy who destroyed them. I don't like to see this. Granted people deserve second chances and fighters improve but if the first fight was so one sided and the second one is too, where dies a fighter go? Nowhere, they rot in a divison where they know they will never be champion. This state of llimbo is horrible for a fighter.

To avoid this state of limbo, I believe there should be either more wight divisions, giving fighters more options to fight and re-establish their careers or that there should be more catchwieght fights allowing fighters to showcase their ability. This is so they are not stuck in a division where they're too good for the rest but not good even for the best.

I know fighters can move weight classes but I feel the current jumps are too big unless you are a very very special fighter/athlete.

I believe once a fighter gets his second rematch after going through two to 5 opponents then he might need to go to another organization like Strikeforce. Sengenko or Dream.
I believe having WEC is great for 155 and below talent. There is nothing wrong with being the no. 2 baddest 185 in the UFC. Fitch I believed was a clear no. 2 but he looked like he was in trouble in his fight at UFC 107.

The only extra weight class I'd like is a cruiserweight of sorts. 220-225 area, but that would still result in weight cutters being 240 and maybe 250. Sooo it would basically be the heavyweight division minus the sick monsters like Carwin and Lesnar.

I think there aren't many catchweight fights in MMA because the people that organize the fights are the fight companies, not promoters and managers and agents.

In boxing there are so many middle men and contract stipulations that boxers have more catchweight fights. It would make more sense for there to be more catchweight fights in MMA, because weight classes are at least 10 pounds apart, as opposed to boxing, where they are 5 pounds apart.

Worst weight class difference in boxing is 3 pounds....first off, I can't believe there are strawweight/mini flyweight fighters at 105 pounds, but that there is another weight class as 108...light flyweight.

Part of the reason boxing's popularity has gone down is because of the number of belts and it is hard to keep track of who has what at what weight class and welt belt in what organization.

I'd like to see catchweights more, but it's going to have to be up to the fighter, his manager or agent to make it happen.
