Default Belcher new contract. Fighting Cote?

Alan "The Talent" Belcher has agreed to four more bouts with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

UFC earlier this month signed Belcher (15-6) to a new deal that pays him a minimum of $55,000 on the first fight and $66,000 for the last one, the Mississippi-based middleweight told a local newspaper site, SunHerald.com.

"It is a good contract, well over six figures," Belcher said.

He hasn't won more than two fights in a row while compiling a 6-4 record since joining the promotion, but Belcher earned another contract for his willingness to trade strikes with anyone. He earned Fight of the Night bonuses for his last two bouts, a first-round technical knockout of Wilson Gouveia and a split-decision loss to Yoshihiro Akiyama.

A preference for striking hasn't kept Belcher from grappling when the opportunity presents itself. He has five wins from submissions, most recently a guillotine choke on Denis Kang that won Submission of the Night for UFC 93 almost a year ago.

Belcher expects his first fight under the new deal to take place on UFC's May 1 show in Montreal against former contender Patrick Cote.

Former middleweight title challenger Patrick Cote will likely make his return to action, following a long layoff due to injury, against rising contender Alan Belcher at UFC 113 which will take place on May 1 in Montreal, with TopMMANews reporting that the bout has been signed.

Cote was last in action in October 2008 against Anderson Silva in a contest for the UFC middleweight championship, but suffered a fight ending knee injury in the third round giving “The Predator” a TKO loss. Following the contest Cote underwent ACL surgery to repair the damaged knee. As he was thought to be nearing a return to action in 2009, he was forced to undergo a second surgery on the knee, this time to repair his MCL.

Belcher is coming off of a first TKO victory over Wilson Gouveia in a 195 pound catchweight bout at UFC 107, bouncing back from a controversial split-decision loss to Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 100. Both contests earned Belcher “Fight of the Night” honors.
