Second, dont start judging my posts when you are well on your way to getting the Negative award. I know im not the only one sick of hearing how much you hate everything.
I do love watching two great strikers. I love watching two great grapplers. I love watching two amateur strikers, and amateur grapplers. But what I really love is watching MMA, the greatest sport in the world.
I am not too ignorant to know that there are going to be some slower fights. That is fine by me. My prediction is that in the next couple years some one is going to come out with the solution to the dominant wrestling and that will be the new dominant style (BJJ my prediction). These come in stages:
- In the begining the Gracies showed that BJJ was best.
- A bit later the big wrestlers dominated, ie Coleman
- We then saw some dominant strikers, Wanderelei
- Now we are seeing some dominant wrestlers coming up again.
I think that right now the sport is as well rounded as it has ever been. We have dominant strikers as champs, wrestlers and BJJ. And all of these guys are seriously well rounded.
Dude, youve got to be a bit more positive once and a while.

This thread has gotten way off topic, so I'll go ahead and site another example of BJJ toughness. Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie. Gracie was in that straight armbar, Hughes said after that he heard Royce's elbow clicking and popping. Royce was expressionless, no wince, or grimace, no sign of discomfort whatsoever. He simply took the pain and got out of that position. He would have let his arm break and keep a straight face. Even in the end he didnt quit, he got pounded on until the ref stopped it. In the face of defeat thats all you can do. Keep a strong face and show your pride. Show your opponent that they didnt mentally break you. Thats toughness!

Apparently Palma thinks i'm a fucking idiot for my post in this thread for some reason and negged me less than 10 points. Thanks a lot, asshole.
All I meant was that I grew up in a shitty backwoods town with no opportunities and went to highschool that offered nothing and was full of trouble and drugs, as is the town. I simply stated that I wished I had a wrestling team where I grew up because I would have greatly appreciated something like that and that if someone was to be bitching about anything they were doing, they shouldn't be fucking doing it. Yes, I acknowledge the extreme difficulty, that's what makes it respectable.
Fuckin' appreciate it, friendo.

Gnp is good but its when they post up to strike that you can escape or attempt a sub. I would say a wrestler with great jj is pretty dangerous since they can finish you without giving you an opportunity to do anything. All ground grappling involves them getting you to the ground though, and if you can stop that, you stop their entire game.
The best thing to get out of wrestling is how to defend wrestling attacks (defend takedown/clinch), and keep things on the feet. With successful takedown defense, all grapplers are easy. | Wrong...in real life, in da street, the wrestler would dump the punk on his head and start to cave his face in...trust me, I know.

i must've told this story about 6-8 times on this forum. When I first started doing Judo when I was 13 my dad took me to this friend who is a great Judo and Sambo guy from the old school (Russia). I wasn't very impressed by sitting in on the class. After the session, my dad and I came up to my (at this time) future trainer, and he asked what I thought about the sport/art, I said I wanted to strike and do kung fu or some dumb nonsense like that...the guy looked at me, hip threw me onto the mats, the air escaped my lungs and I couldn't regain it right away and was seeing stars, he looked over me and said "now, imagine, this throw onto concrete"...changed my mind forever. In HS fights all of mine and my wrestling buddies would destroy kids...how? you move in to throw a punch, single leg or even worse double or a high crotch takedown (a surgeon with those), then GnP till the kid cries |

While the whole outlook of the "lay and pray" technique is seemed to be boring and in some peoples case "stalling" Some people see it as complete control of the opponent. Some wrestlers might not be the most exciting fighters but they are obviously the more overpowering which will win fights. Wrestlers who can over power guys with the unpopular lay and pray technique will be able to fight however long they want because they will not be taking shots while guys who just go out and bang will be done within 10 years due to wear and tear. A true wrestler will be able to do what they want to you on the ground and keep themselves out of harms way. MMA is a mix of all fighting aspects and all though i hate watching lay and pray fighters, its honestly a smart way of a full time fighter to go about their game plan if they can successfully control their opponent on the ground.

I understand controlling your opponent, but biding time and staying stagnant should not win a fight. I have no prob with wrestlers as long as they "work" and don't linger in the same position waiting for the ref to threaten to stand things up. Too bad there is no yellow card in mma these days, it might keep things moving a little bit. Ground Control is a smart fighting style/ gameplan for alot of fighters, and I don't expect every fight to be barnburner, but alot of guys are afraid to go for a finish in fear of losing their dominant position and that is what is causing a lot of people to complain about wrestlers these days.
