| Wrestling what????
Wrestlers are the toughest guys out there. Neg rep me if you want. This is just a message board but i told you long ago that wrestlers are the toughest guys out there. Boxing is fun to watch but mma is the toughest sport out there next to wrestling.

yeah, agreed. i've been doing muay thai for four years and BJJ for two. Wrestling in high school is still by far more harder than the work and effort i put into wrestling.
huge fan of mma, boxing, muay thai, BJJ, Taekwondo and Akido. But the amount of training in wrestling is unreal.
Most wrestlers in MMA are dominant as well ala GSP, Couture, Lesnar.

its definatley the thing you need in your arsonal in mma because you can use it for so many thing to keepo the fight standing if you have great hands and knock out power ala chuck, ryan bader(not that he has great hands but defo ko power), aswell what we have seen how good is it being a mutiple time jui jitsu world champion if you cant get the fight to the ground and you can just be like josh koschek and gray maynard and lay on fighters and use it at the end of the round to steal it in a lackluster fight!

Think about it, in High School and College when kids are going out and getting drunk and partying I spent my winters cutting weight on a treadmill and living off a plain turkey sandwich and a few glasses of water a day. Oh yea, you do that for about 4 months in a row. All of that is just to make sure you can wrestle. Then when it comes time for the actual match you have to deal with a guy that is just as pissed off as you about all this and wants to win to make the whole sport worth it.
Wrestling is not basketball, baseball or soccer. Its the kind of sport were if you are not mentally tough you won't make it through the first few weeks of practice.

I would have loved the mental aspect of it, as well as the competetive. I would definitely eat turkey and water for four months if I were competing in something I loved to do. So if anyone were to bitch about such things, they don't need to be wrestling, or whatever they're doing.

To beat a good wrestler you just need the correct skillset:
1. Takedown defense/balance
2. Correct distancing/footwork (dont be in range unless you are striking)
3. Takedown offense (understand mechanics so you can understand reversals; also if you are on top the wrestler is not)
4. JJ from bottom, specifically guard, wrist control, leg locks
5. Great lower body conditioning and balance (legs)
Of course it depends on the opponent but if you are great at any of those things, in that order of importance, youll give the wrestler a hard time. Defend his shot or force them to shoot from too far away, and you will wear them out mentally/physically as well as force them out of their comfort zone. Takedown defense imo is by far the most important wrestling skill in mma. A lot of wrestlers arent used to working from the bottom, so a good takedown offense can be a good takedown defense if you arent good at defending the takedown. Good JJ from the bottom keeps you comfortable no matter where the fight goes. Good lower body conditioning and balance will get you off the ground when the wrestler puts you there. It takes more energy to shoot in, pick you up and put you down over and over, than it does for you to stand up if you have the balance and conditioning to stand up at will.

"Once you have wrestled, everything else in life is easy" all the wrestlers on here know this saying and its pretty hard to argue. sure its not flashy or as entertaining to some but look at the wrestlers like Fitch and Gray, you know EXACTLY what their going to do. shoot, take you down, and keep you there. that is no secret and NO ONE can stop it. sure they can be beat but i think it says alot when you can work on take down defense for a whole camp but you still end up on your back.
