I don't think the UFC has been avoiding Striker vs Striker fights, I think they've had a pretty good mix recently but a lot of the high profile fights have been Grounds vs Standing fights.
Im not gona bother listing them all out as others have already done this one but ones that stick in my mind have been :- Barry v CroCop / Machida v Shogun / Jones vs Vera & Bonnar / Soszynski v Bonnar x2 etc etc etc
The champs apart from Silva are very strong in the ground game and so it makes sense that a lot of the high profile fights haven't been striker vs striker.

When you really chop down a division to the point when top conteders are facing one another the diversity is usually a huge factor. Most the time we see these fights not being the stylistic matchups we want (ex: Kos vs Daley, Sonnen vs Marquart, Kenny vs Maynard, Fitch vs Alves). But these fights have to happen none the less. Whether we enjoy what the outcome may be these guys are fighting to win and we can't fault them for that
Also as Bosh said, there stil are plenty of brawls that are going on. Lets not forget Leben vs Sexyama, Perason vs Siver, Stout vs Stevens. We can go on and on.

118 had Davis vs. Diaz and Edgar vs. Penn which were both standing for most of the fight.
117 had Dos Santos vs. Nelson
116 had Leben vs. Akiyama, Lytle vs. Brown, Bonnar vs. Soszynski and the whole 1st round of Carwin-Lesnar was Carwin pumping fists into Brock's face.
115 had Franklin-Liddell, Cro Cop-Barry, Condit-McDonald.
How many do you want on each card?
If you are trying to break it down to the lowest common denominator and put fighters into either a striker or grappler category then it does MMA a complete disservice.
When were the last matches between two pure BJJ fighters? What about pure wrestlers? Muay Thai fighters?
Either way, yes it is just you. 117 is the only card that I would look at and be able to predict that the majority of the main card fights would take place primarily on the ground. Hughes-Almeida, Fitch-Alves, Guida-Dos Anjos, but not many could have predicted that Silva-Sonnen would have played out that way.
