| Stop the hate on Lesnar
OK, I want to preface this by saying that I am a Brock Lesnar fan and have been since his WWE days. I am also an educated wrestling fan and a somewhat educated MMA fan. I want to go ahead and get that out of the way before I continue.
I have been watching MMA since before Brock entered the cage, but finding out he was trying his hand at the sport made it more of a draw to me personally. I was interested to see how the former WWE champion would fair against the best fighters in the world. It's no secret that Brock is a freak of nature athletically and he has the college wrestling credentials that would give him a chance in the octagon. Now we all know that a good wrestler does not necessarily always make for a good MMA fighter, but it does make for a damn good base to build off of. Would Brock be able to build off of that remained to be seen and in a sense still does.
When Lesnar entered the UFC he said he wanted to fight the best in the world, Dana responded to that by saying that Brock would not be handed any soup cans in his organization. If you ask me both of those statements have been true. Brocks first fight (and loss) was against Frank Mir. Mir is a well known and dangerous opponent. After Mir was Herring, then the title shot against Couture (which deserved or not, he won). Brock became Champion and the names didn't get any smaller. Mir, then Carwin and finally the loss to Cain.
His next fight is against another number one contender in Junior Dos Santos. Brock certainly has a shot to beat JDS, but Dos Santos is going to be no easy task and could certainly give Lesnar his 3rd loss. My point to all of this is why does everyone act like Brock is just another Kimbo Slice or Bobby Lashley? Brock has had a harder road in the ufc than any fighter I know of. Can anyone tell me another fighter who has faced the type of competition that Lesnar has in his first 7 fights? Not even the great Fedor faced that level of opponents in his first 7 fights. So why does everyone disrespect what Lesnar has done in a sport that he is still relatively new to? Again, I'm not writing this because I think Brock is the best that ever stepped into the octagon, but I do think that given some experience he can become one of them. It's almost unfair to say he is a joke or even undeserving anymore. The Next Big Thing is for real and I hope he is here to stay.
Not a sermon, just a thought

in all fairness, i think most of the brock hate comes from some of his actions, combined with his trolling fans. and no, i am not referring to you icon as a trolling fan. that is in fact the first intelligent brock post i have ever seen by someone with under 100 post and you are applauded for it.
brock has to learn to not cower when he is hit. it has been said by many, including me, that in a fight brock can take someone down and control them he will probably win, in a fight brock cant take someone down, he will lose. right now it is that simple. sure he has fought some decent and tough and top competition but i feel he is now as a crossroads. he can either get better, only take fights that cater to him, or go on to a subpar career. the choice is really his

Ok first of all I repped you because you seem to be very educated.
Secondly, what you mention is true but i think the hate for Lesnar is not at all because of the competition he has faced.
The reasons I dislike (a lot) Lesnar:
1.- He acted like a complete prick in the fight with Herring and the 2nd one with Mir.
2.- When he was a complete rookie with only 3 fights under his belt he was making such arrogant and disrespectful quotes as "Nobody gives a shit about Fedor" and he was talking shit about other fighters too.
3.- He is very overrated. I dont understand how anybody believed that he was the baddest man of the planet and the best HW in the world when since the beginning he showed that he has many holes and that his succes is mainly because of his size.
4.- He was in WWE. Yes I will admit that this is another reason I dislike him. Even though he is one of the very few WWEntertainers that have background in some combat sport it really made me sick how many WWE fanboys became to claim that MMA is a joke and the WWE stars are real tough guys. Those morons dont know that 95% of the WWE roster would get killed in MMA.

I think the Return of...got it right there. Brock fans are even more annoying than he is. Ever since he became champion, a lot of people jumped on his bandwagon without really knowing much about the sport, and it's hard to continue hearing all their garbage without hating him. Not to mention his antics at UFC 100 kind of offended me, and more importantly the sport.
But ever since he got sick, it seems he became more humble, as we saw in the Carwin and Cain fight he didn't really talk any trash, and just came out and fought. It's obvious now that he has a hard time taking a punch in the face, so they throw him against arguably the best striker in the UFC, but oh well, I'll never count him out.

Most people don't hate Lesnar. The reason I don't like him is that he is the symbol of uneducated fans (who thinks he's the greatest) and the hype machine which labeled him as the baddest man on the planet. We need less hyperbole and more objectivity in this sport from the fighters, the promoters (I'm looking right at you Dana) and the fans.

good post, yea sure on the likes of sherdog i think there is a lot of irrational brock fans but on the 'news forums i dont think there is anywhere near as much.
as a matter of fact id probably say that the brock hate outweighs the brock nuthuggery over here.

im a wrestling fan, have been for over 20 years. and im not a lesner fan.
from his fight with randy i could see his timidness and unwillingness to engage. nothing personal, but hes a rookie. i just hated to hear about him being the baddest man on the planet and all that crap.
i still dont think his heart is in mma. for all he talks about his work ethic i cant help but feel when push comes to shove he rides his natural ability rather than training to fight.
Pat berry was on inside mma after lesners loss to cain, and bas was grueling him about brocks sparing and pat wouldnt comment. you can read that anyway you want, but i see it as the training camp wasnt up to pat's standards.
i dont "hate on brock" or anything like that, but im dont like the idea of him coaching tuf. the kids on his team will have more experience then him.
i respect your opinion though, you seem to know what your talking about. everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Only thing I didnt like was the hype and how he got coined with "the baddest man on the planet" I got no hate for him, just dont like his bandwagon fans. Brock is still pretty green in the sport, he hasnt had that many fights. I wish him the best and hope he comes back from the loss against Cain with a new-found drive and killer instinct, if he doesnt, JDS is going to hand him his 3rd straight loss and that's no good.
