Default Melvin Guillard: Impossible to KO???

I was reading an article that claims Guillard has never been KOd in 37 professional fights. I've only got a little (very little) experience with kick boxing, so can someone explain to me how he has stylistically avoided being KOd taking into consideration that he brawls so much??? Is it simply because his opponents target his poor submission defense?

If you believe Mike Goldberg, he's probably never been KO'd because he's "one of the most versatile strikers in MMA"

That said, if you believe Mike Goldberg, then you might as well go drink a gallon of paint thinner, because I'm pretty sure you're beyond all help.

First and for most their is no such thing as a fighter that can't be knocked out. some fighter to have stronger chin's than others. If the punch lands in the right spot and catches the fighter off gaurd any fighter can be put to sleep. To answer your question on how he as avoided being ko'd in 30 + pro fights it could be for several reasons.
1. use of movement
2. use of defense
3. level of comp.( how many cans has he fought in the 30 + fights)
4. good chin
5. a little luck.
There are so many factors to why a fighter has never been knocked out, way more than I listed. Hell Marcus davis had never been knocked out in mma until recently. He was knocked out once has a pro boxer. But the point is there is no telling why he has not been knocked out. But no it is not impossiable and the more he fights and the higher his level of comp goes up the better his chances. Hope this helps.

and for the record Im not say he has faught all cans I would need to look up he record to determine that Im just using that as an example

Well, his entire style and approach up until the Jackson days was based around stellar wrestling, which is in and of itself a diffusal of striking, so it's not a shock he's never been finished. It's not like he's Fujita-ing his fight en route to wins, rather hasn't chosen to trade vs. anybody near a relevant striker. Heck, he'd have been KO'd by now if he didn't run away from Lil Heathen last fight.

i was thinking of this similar question the other day, how come some fighters are capable of 1 punch knockouts while others cant?

for example, if you look at sean sherk and takanori gomi; sherk looks like a giant action figure while gomi looks like an average guy. but gomi will fuck you up while sherk even with his tight boxing cant.

is it all technique? luck? or some unknown x factor that some fighters just "have"

to have one punch knock out power, it something that comes natural, you either have it or you don't. It really can't be trained. now, that dosent mean if you dont have it that you wont be able to knock someone out, it just going to take more than one punch. most knockouts happen because the fighter is getting tired and just dosent have the will to keep fighting.
