Default Why all the fighters have nicknames?
I dont understand why almost every MMA fighter has some nickname, for example Fedor "The last emperor" Emelianenko.

I am ok with that as far as the nickname makes some sense, but in some cases its just pointless.

Examples:

Frankie "The answer" Edgar: I mean, seriously? The answer to what?
Brandon "Truth" Vera
Gina "conviction" Carano: WTF???
Jorge "el conquistador" Rivera: The conquerer of what?

Are the fighters themselves that choose that nickname or it is the organization that gives them one?

Some fighters get their nickname from friends or coaches because of some sort of attribute they display or naturally have. Other fighters make up a nickname like Shane Carwin came up with "The Engineer" (which, btw is HORRIBLE).

Anyways, another reason fighters get a nickname is because a certain word goes with their last name. Like Sean "The Shark" Sherk or Matt "The Terror" Serra.

But in the end, the a good reason company's have no problem with this is because it helps with the marketing.

Some people just don't have nicknames. Matt Hughes comes to mind.

You're undercutting Sean there, he's not just The Shark he is the Muscle Shark

i agree that most of the nicknames suck, but what do you expect in a fighting sport. almost everybody of relevance will have one.
