War Machine Planning Return To The Cage - FightLine.com

War Machine, fresh off a one-year jail sentence for a felony assault conviction, will make his return to fighting at Chicago Cagefighting Championship 4 on October 15.
War Machine (11-4) will meet Gideon Ray (17-13-1) at The Odeuom Sports & Expo Center in Villa Park, Illinois.

War Machine, real name Jonathan Koppenhaver (he legally changed his name in 2009), appeared on the sixth season of The Ultimate Fighter where he was eliminated in the opening round by eventual finalist Tommy Speer. Drama in the house, though, kept War Machine in the spotlight.

After scoring a knockout victory at the season finale, War Machine given a fight in the UFC, but was defeated by Yoshiyuki Yoshida and released.

War Machine went on to go 6-2 in smaller promotions before his arrest and jail stint.

Ray is a three-time UFC veteran who also competed on TUF. He was part of the "Comeback" season, falling to eventual winner Matt Serra.

Ray lost his three fights with the UFC to Charles McCarthy, Mike Swick and David Loiseau.

Well at least this article was in relation to his fight career, and not his porn career or getting his ass waxed, etc.

Still, War Machine being automatically sent to Noob Jack, whatever the topic, doesn't upset me a whole lot.

The guy could have actually had a decent ufc career if he wasn't an idiot. They offered him some low level fighter after losing to Yoshida and he declined and said he wanted a different fight, and got cut. Chances are if he took that fight, he woud have won, and would have continued to get some lower-mediocre level fighters for a while. I'm sure he would have lost when he actually fought a top contender, but then maybe he would get another mediocre fighter before losing 3 times in a row, and chances are they would have kept him around for that long because of his name and he was on tuf.

I'm sure he could have improved from fight to fight too, if he stayed dedicated and focused on things other than fighting random people on the streets/at porn parties and starring in pornos.
