A protégé of Rodrigo Nogueira has been shot dead in Rio.

Henrique Oliveira, 27, was killed after he left a ‘funk’ party in Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, at dawn yesterday.

According to witnesses, the welterweight tried to break up a fight that was happening in the street when he was surrounded by an armed group that shot him to death.

He is set to be buried this afternoon.

Rodrigo Nogueira lamented the crime on twitter: “What a fatality. The death of Team Nogueira Rio's Henrique Negao, murdered last night. An excellent athlete, super dedicated.”
