lifting pains Does anyone in here lift regularly? I began lifiting 18 months ago after 2 surgeries (ACL/MCL tear and Severed Ulnar Nerve) and have put on about 25 lbs, but recently I have had SEVERE pains in my wrist, elbow and knee (not the one I had surgery on). I stretch weekly, do cardio 2x weekly, and lift 3x weekly. I am only 25 so I really hope its not my age. I have tried wraps incase of tendonitus and icy hot, neither helps. Any suggestions the only thing i can think of is that i put on too much muscle too fast. I am only taking Muscle Milk no other supplements, my lifts have gone up signifigantly in the 18 months could that be it? Bench up to 285 from 190 Squat up to 435 from 315 deadlift up to 455 from ??? (never did it before) Cleans up to 225 from ??? (never did it before) I'm 5'11, 191 with like 9% body fat so i dont think that i have put on too much weight??? I have never sought help from a CPT so just wondering if there are any experts on here |
If the pain is severe I would say have a doctor/specialist check it out. The last thing you want to do is make it worse. |

Classic doctor advice: Man: "Doc, it really hurts when I do this." Doc: "Don't do that." Problem solved. Though I know it's not that easy. I have tendonitis in both my shoulders and I still roll most every day. |
Try go for lightier weight for awhile and see if that helps with the pain. I am no fitness guru, but I would think it would be possible for you muscles to handle the heavy weight but your joints / ligaments / tendons not be able to handle it correctly yet... Make sure that you are doing the exercises with correct form. Ask the trainers at your gym to just correct your form (every gym I have been at they did that if asked). Also, like everyone else said... See a doctor if the pain is excruciating enough. |

Be very careful with what you do now as it will affect you later. I'm 37 and wrestled, fought did karate and now I'm banged up for my sins. Knee pain, back soreness etc. but I still try to do what I can, knowing I have some limitations. Keep in mind that the more you bulk up the more you have to carry around and maintain. You could wind up having additional pains in other places. Good luck and keep us informed as to your progress. And for the record, I think I can kick Noob's arse and steal his Yu-gi-oh cards as I at Dork's oatmeal cookies, wearing Val's diaper. |

Lighter weight more reps. The thing that is happening to you is that your muscles are stronger than what your joints and or Ligaments can handle. Do less weight and lots of reps instead for a while till you get your J&L up to speed. P.S. 191lbs 5'11" 9% BODY FAT!!! are you telling the truth here about your body fat. If so WTF do you eat??? I'M asking because I'm at 12% and I think thats too much definition already?? |
Yeah I only eat: chicken/salmon/tuna/egg whites Whole grain Pasta/brown rice/whole grain english muffins lots of fresh veggies not too much fruit except oranges I eat a great salad every night with tomatoes/Cucumbers/olives/spincah/feta cheese/bananna peppers/basil/balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil over a gallon of water a day and i rarely drink alcohol. I also eat about 5-6 times a day reasonable portions with all the essentials I get bitched out now though cause my girlfriend says soon i'll have a bigger chest than her...but so what |
