Working legs (squating) enhances weight loss according to Men's Health. (I want to say David Zinczenko there editor and author of the book "The Abs Diet") Squating works big muscles in the legs which trigger then need fuel (calories) to work and recover. So you burn more calories throughout the day by working legs. Something like that.
As for squatting... Prior to 4 knee surgeries I was 185/190 doing 8reps at 405lbs and maxing around 500lbs... Now I am 205 and I dont try above 225 pounds for squats. My legs seem to get a bad hurt when I do.
