| Pennington heading to Minnesota? Quote: |
Chad Pennington has played his last game with the Jets, GM Mike Tannenbaun said Thursday in an early morning conference call. Barring a last minute snag, Pennington will be traded or released today. The holdup is paperwork. Ironically, one possible destination is Minnesota, the team Brett Favre desperately wanted to play for. With Favre scheduled to earn $12 million this season -- if the Jets don't rework his contract, the organization will save nearly $6 million on the cap by getting rid of Pennington.

Would be funny to see this happen. Favre wants to go to Minnesota. Doesn't get his wish, ends up in New York as a Jet, taking over Pennington's job. Pennington becomes a Viking. I don't know if he would start... but he could win that position over the season... imagine that... a "take that Brett Farve".

His salary is too large for any team to pick up so by 4 pm today he will be released. Once released, any team can pick him up and while Minnesota is possible, you also have to look at Kansas City, Miami, or Chicago. Quote:

The problem with Pennington is his arm strength and he didn't have the arm strength to play in the cold and in that up and down passing game in NY. Now in Minnesota, in the dome, Pennington could shine.
If I were you, I'd be praying for Pennington to come in. I would take any starter in the league and a number of backups over T. Jackson. I thing Jackson is the worst starter in the league right now.

T. Jackson sucks. You guys should be praying for Pennington and maybe even give Culpepper another shot.

Well it seems Pennington is heading to Miami instead... Quote:
MIAMI (AP) -- Chad Pennington, cut by the New York Jets after they signed Brett Favre, signed with the Miami Dolphins on Friday.
The 32-year-old Pennington, expected to be the starting quarterback for Miami, agreed to the deal Friday worth $11.5 million over two years.
Bill Parcells, now the Dolphins' vice president of football operations, drafted Pennington with the 18th overall pick in 2000 when he was the Jets' general manager.
The Dolphins, coming off a 1-15 season, will open the season against the Jets in Miami, giving Pennington an immediate chance to face his former team.
A message seeking comment from the Dolphins wasn't immediately returned.
Before the signing, Pennington said he was disappointed but had no hard feelings after being released by the Jets.
"I have enjoyed it," Pennington said Friday in his first public comments since his release. "I've learned a lot, become a better professional and a better man because of my experience and my time in New York. I don't regret or feel ashamed about anything that happened to me in my time in New York."
Pennington became the popular face of the Jets for several seasons and arrived in camp competing with Kellen Clemens for the starting job. The Jets jettisoned Pennington to clear salary cap space once they got Favre from Green Bay.
"The most difficult part is just the realization that the organization no longer wants you," Pennington said. "You spend eight years there and, in the blink of an eye, you're no longer wanted there."
The 32-year-old Pennington ranks first in NFL history among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 attempts with a 65.6 completion percentage. He was often recognized as being a leader in the huddle and an intelligent field general, but was dogged throughout his time in New York for his lack of arm strength.
Injuries were also a problem for Pennington, who broke his wrist in 2003 and had two rotator cuff operations in eight months in 2005. His career was in doubt, but he bounced back and was the NFL Comeback Player of the Year after beating out Clemens, Brooks Bollinger and Patrick Ramsey for the starting job in 2006. He had his best all-around season, throwing for a career-high 3,352 yards while again leading the Jets to the playoffs and starting every game for the first time.
He struggled last season, going 1-7 as the starter and was benched after Week 8 in favor of Clemens. Pennington had done a bit better than Clemens early in training camp, and was considered the favorite to open the season as the starter at Miami.
Then, came the news that Favre was coming to town. Pennington found out from coach Eric Mangini around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, shortly before the team announced the deal.

I wanted Henne to start, and watch him fail (i'm a buckeye fan and hate the wolverines... haha) but yeah, maybe they'll finish like 3-13 now. Maybe.

I don't think Miami is a good spot for him. Minnesota would have been much better but hey, he's getting almost 12 million for 2 years. You can't argue with that.

I wish Chad the best of luck. He is and always will be one of my favorite players along with Jonathon Vilma. Just because a player leaves your team doesn't mean you shouldn't like him.
