I just figured as a sentimental favorite, seeing as he totaly got screwed over for the CS trophy before.

There is actually a big difference between a .945 save % and .934 save %. On a 1000 shots at those save percentages Brodeur let's in 66 goals and Giguere lets in 55. That's 20% more goals per shot which is substanstial.

Also over the course of the playoffs Marty had 7 shutouts while Gigure had only 5. In the Cup Finals, out of the Devils 4 wins, Marty had 3 shutouts
It could have went either way, but to say that Gigure, who was on the team that did not win the Stanley Cup, clearly deserved it over Marty is false.
It was ridiculously close, and I think if it is as close as that, it should go to the cup winner
